Then again my payment equates to $130.80 + drinks.
That is low over here.
I was paying $230 to a KJ for a saturday night 5 years ago.
That at the time was as much as they could get with a good following.
It has to be more now.
That was in a small town, not a city.

Yes. I think the cost of living is lower over there.
We are hammered.

Jerry from what I can tell price wise is just replace the dollar sign with a pound sign. For example, you say 60 UKP (not sure if my laptop has the right symbol) will buy three karaoke discs (I'm going to assume SC or Zoom quality), well $60 here will buy the same thing. A bottle of beer here (Halifax, Canada) in a bar can range from $3.50-5.00Cdn. What would a bottle of beer where you at range? How about others joing in and let the rest of us know what your area is like.

Lonnie you may want to make this a thread of its own if it gets any responses.

As of today $1.00Cdn = .562 UKP = .921 USD = 3.247RM

Karaoke disc is about RM20 in Malaysia
Beer in a bar is expensive; RM8 or RM28/jug, but cost only 4 out side.
I can get a lunch for RM5 with coffee
Petrol is RM2.75/L
Band will play RM700 per night gig
A in-house KJ/DJ get RM20 to 30 per night.

RM1=US$0.28

Karaoke disks in the US are $17-$22 tops. You can often get them on sale for less.

Lots of things are different by state. I live in a place where the cost of living is fairly low, but it isn't that much different from most places in the US. (New York, the Pacific Northwest, and California have tax craziness all their own. And Hawaii and Alaska are higher for other reasons.) I don't drink, but I do buy friends the occasional beer. Where I am, beer is $1.50 at a club or $2.50 at a bar, with specials sometimes making it lower. Some city bars are a bit more.

Lunch or breakfast is $7.00 or so. My wife and I have a steak, shrimp cocktail, and soft drinks (sharing the entree) with tip for about $40-45.

Gasoline is $2.50 per gallon.

I wish that were true! I live in London, it usually ranks 1st or 2nd most expensive city in the world. Its all relative though I suppose. I am being offered twice that rate for a fortnightly gig in a local pub and I'm still not sure I want to take it because it is still a fair bit less than I would normally charge.

Just to give you an approximate idea of what 'Rip-off Britain' costs in $$..

Pint of beer: $5.90
Gallon of petrol/gas: $8.20
Average house price (London) : $505,000
New Ford Mondeo (I think you guys call it a Taurus): $29,400

Its not all bad though, or at least it wasn't until Gordon Brown gave the £ lead boots. I went to Florida in 06 & 07 when £1 = $2. Everything was still the same or less in $ than it was here in £ so it was like more than doubling my money!

That is probably true of London prices.
The further north you go the cheaper it gets.
This is my local music shop.
