Post subject:  SOUND CHOICE TITLES - No Longer Available at Proburncdg.com

Hi......I just found your site while trying to get any kind of info on this tragic news.

Being new to this forum i am not sure if any of you are aware of this.

I am in Australia and have just ordered a proburn disc from clarkmusic.biz

They are the Sound Choice distributors here in Australia.

I have just been informed by them that Sound Choice have sold their library of all tracks made pre 2008 and the arrangement has been that they could lease back the tracks for Custom CDGs, but now the company who bought the library have changed their minds and only want to sell via downloads. So no more custom cd's

Now I am not sure if this just relates to Australia or if it is a global thing.

The guy that runs clarkmusic told me in an email yesterday that All sound choice titles had now been removed from his proburncdg.com site and that Sound Choice tracks on the Sound Choice website will only be available until the September 10th.

This all seems to be true after I re checked the proburncdg.com site.

The only tracks online now are Easy Karaoke, Zoom Karaoke,Music Maestro and
DK Karaoke.

So i have checked the uk site proburn.com and they still list sound choice titles.

Does anyone know about sound choice selling there catalogue of songs to another company.

If not then I guess I will find out soon enough, after the 10th

Thanks,

GT

They are not offering anything pre '08 after the 10th. They are getting their download site up soon and all those songs will be available via download only.

Wow! I'm glad our company has a collection of the majority of Sound Choice discs. We have always felt that Sound Choice has the best quality karaoke tracks with only a few duds.

However it is awesome that Sound Choice it putting together a download site to get their content.

I wonder how dealers of Sound Choice products are affected since a bunch of 8000 series discs are no longer available.

I believe they are just doing this with the custom site is what I heard. The Spotlights are still going to be available - well at least for now.

Yeah, it takes quite some time to get the hardcopy cdg from AU. Also Sound Choice AU sends it in a cardboard mailer. We have been lucky the disc(s) haven't arrived cracked. Download is the way to go for all karaoke labels.

I know SBI in the UK does legal downloads of their label as well as SunFly. Any word on Zoom?

There was a post of all the new karaoke music from ZOOM but it got removed because I believe it promoted a brand or product or something like that wich is againt the forum rules. "POOP" did I say ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM (I'm refering to DR Darian from SCUBS).

Yeah, I noticed that DJ. I beleive it was angel who posted it.

I commented on how cool that there were new songs from The Smiths & Lady Gaga on those new Zoom karaoke discs.

jmeister made a comment that the thread may be against forum rules & then the thread was gone. However, I think there were links to Amazon to buy the new Zoom karaoke product which may have crossed the line. I wouldn't have known about these new songs on Zoom unless I saw it here on karaokescene. Otherwise it could have been months until I figured it out.

However, to stay on topic. As I mentioned above, download is the way to go no matter if it is Zoom, Poop Hits Monthly, Sound Choice, SunFly, & Chartbuster. Have I missed any other labels? Custom cdgs as Sound Choice AU offer risk getting damaged in shipping.

Didn't somebody mention that the downloads wouldn't be legal for KJs to use? That would be a bummer if true!

I mentioned that the downloads from TheKaraokeChannel.com have terms stating they are not for professional use. Stingray bought Sound Choice's library and sell it under that brand name and their own.

Will they run another site with CDG+MP3 rather than WMA and MP4 downloads? Will they license back to Sound Choice to do similar? Will there be a price premium for KJ use vs home use? (Not opposed to this outright but not really in favor of it.) Stingray could do great business by licensing their tracks for sale on other download sites.

Maybe Apple will announce their new Karaoke iPods today!

PS. I would be interested in Stingray's definition of 'Professional Use'... perhaps it means you can't use them as a backing track for when you are a paid singer, perhaps they need to spell things out a little clearer!

Probably me. And one more time:

Companies who down load from, say, a site in the UK are operating perfectly legally, as that sort of licensing exists there.

KJ's who download IN THE UK are also perfectly legal, for the same reasons.

HOWEVER, KJs who download from the UK to the U.S., are not legal, because none of those tracks are LICENSED IN THE U.S.

NO U.S. licensing EXISTS for them, or any other karaoke download- period

There is NO WORLDWIDE organization that can license for all jurisdictions.

A KJ who downloads karaoke tracks takes FULL RESPONSIBILITY for licensing, unlike those who buy discs. This means that if anyone takes the time investigate you ( doubtful, but who knows) you are completely open to legal action for unlicensed music. A receipt for payment does not prove licensing, merely that you paid someone for the music.

This is why no karaoke download site will include a copy of U.S. license for any track.

This is also why people like SC have moved their download sites overseas to avoid U.S. jurisdiction. They KNOW the tracks aren't licensed HERE, so they shift the burden of responsibility to the KJ. They couldn't care less what happens to you.

I don't believe it was deleted because of "promoting" the Zoom label. It was probably deleted because Angel posted every new disc with all of the titles... and that was just a waste of space, because his post took up a whole page. It would have been easier to just post the link to their new releases and let those that were interested in it, see the disc listings for themselves.

Well folks,

Seems that all all that stuff about the titles disapearing is about to happen.

Today being in australia it is the 11th September 4:30am

As i sit and type this message the sound choice custom cdg site = mykaraokecdg.com.au that is hosted here in australlia is undergoing some work.

I just checked The proburn.com site in the UK, and guess what?

All sound choice titles have also been removed.

A sad day in karaoke......lucky I have all my favourite sound choice discs.

I better look after them real good.

Thanks to the two who posted these warnings. I ordered my Custom a few days ago . On the US site it said they would be posting "substitutes" soon.

The other thing is the Sound Choice Club is now offering 3 (I think?) CDGS of your choice for joining rather than a Custom like they used to.

What with the SC news and the Sunfly news this is actually getting very strange.

They always gave one free CDG of your choice along with a 10 song custom.

When I ordered my last Custom I put it under my Sound Choice membership. They called and said it had recently expired but they hadn't gotten around to emailing notices to anyone. So I asked if I could just join again right there and put this Custom on it and they said they were no longer offereing the Custom as part of the membership--it is now a choice of 3 discs plus the 10% discount on future purchases, points that you earn and a quarterly newsletter--still $25 to join.

Also, just checked the Custom site and it says it is undergoing renovation.
