I appreciate the reality that KJ's have to put food on the table and that bars use karaoke singing to get more customers, but I am an alcoholic and I am wondering if anyone knows of any locations in CT that have non-bar karaoke singing?

I have no problem sitting in a bar in the sense of being tempted to drink, but I just find that thecloser you get to bar closing time, the more drunk people are, the uglier the songs become, the louder and more obnoxious they become...becomes a real sad site.

Any one elsefind this true???

Mike
Feel for you

It just seems that KARAOKE and BARS go together ( at least in the USA) .
I've heard of COFEE HOUSE karaoke and PIZZA PARLOR karaoke. BUt in some instances now you have to contend with "little kids" screaching on the mic ---although CUTE to start after awhile ..NO SO LOL

Are there groups ( for Recovering Alcoholics) that meet or get together?
Maybe they have Karaoke nights ?

Can't be any worse than some adults who screech and scream into a mic. In fact I find kids better behaved because they are doing something that is usually reserved for adults in most cases and it makes them feelgrown up and don't want to lose being able to do it again.

I think that children are adorable. I also think that children DO NOT belong in a bar where alcohol is being served. I go to karaoke to be around other adults having a good time singing songs. I don't go out to bar to watch children try to sing some Jonas Brothers song that they barely know, while mommy takes video of their little darlings. I think those parents should hire a KJ for junior's Birthday party and let the kids go karaoke krazy. If I were to be invited to a birthday party like that, I would enjoy the little darlings as much as anyone else. There is a time and place for everything.

I don't know if this is any help, but I do know a lot of churches are now hosting karaoke nights. They buy their own systems and usually someone donates their time to run it. :D

I'm in complete agreement. I quit going to the bars that permit children to screech Karaoke. Luckily there aren't many left that permit them in my area anymore and their numbers are dwindling, thank goodness. Another reason I get ticked when some mommy says to me or someone in my group, "please watch your language around these children".

For crying out loud lady, take them home or to Chuck Cheese but get them out of an adult entainment facilkity already. I too love the littledarlings but not in an adults place for entertainment. Some folks just don't get it.

First of all Mike, welcome to the site.

I can only grasp at what your saying. If I'm not feeling all that well and we still go out, I get to see the closing time you speak of, because I don't drink if Im not well. And for the most part, I don't see much of it all in regards to uglier songs and more obnoxiuos singers. I mean yes, it happens, but its not the norm. I'm in the Chicagoland burbs and hangout at places where the rotation generally is from 20 and below on normal nights for them.

If you can find a place where there is something offered other than JUST drinking than you USUALLY get a milder crowd even though there is still alcohol being served. Karaoke in Bowling alleys comes to mind. Also karaoke at lounges attched to nice restaurants or even at Dennys.
