Post subject: | How to turn off/on main vocal in DVD karaoke disc |
Hello all, I have karaoke dvd discs (instead of vcd or svcd), and I am trying to find a player or software that will allow me to turn on/off the lead vocal when in karaoke mode. There are some karaoke players that have the "voice cancel" feature, but this feature only works with vcd or svcd types. Right now I am trying out a Siglos Karaoke Professional software, but when I import the songs from the dvd (as avi files), there is no option to turn off the vocal. Any suggestions for a karaoke player or software is appreciated. Thanks, Dustin |

The AVI files are movie files and all the music is mixed in to the two channel. Anything close to what you can do is very complicated at best impossible at worst. You can try to extract the audio file, run it through a vocal reducer and try to combine the video section with the new audio file but you will have to do it one at a time. I don't think AVI files have a single channel main vocal feature so you can turn off the vocal from the right channel and only use left channel for the music. It may be worth trying. |

eben, Thank you. You are absolutely right about avi files. How about standard karaoke dvd disks (.vob files)? I am going to try Swit Elite 4 and see if it works for vob files. Thanks Dusting |

Thanks Dusting The vob files are even worse. You can't even extract the audio files from vob files easily. I seriously doubt it will work. |

If it's a karaoke discs how is the main singer there? Is it a vocal demo so you can sing along to learn the song? There should be a non vocal version there to. |

Thanks all -- I will just take the dvd to a local karaoke shop and ask them to play it and see which player can turn off the lead vocal. From what I know, these disks have two audio streams, one with the lead vocal and the other w/o the vocal. I also found that swift elite 3 and 4 will play these vob files, and I can also select the audio stream (1 with vocal and the other one without), but this software freezes up a lot so I might look into a karaoke player instead. |

They work on the multiplex setting. Do you have a multiplex button or setting? The vocals are on one side of the audio track. They can be turned off. |
