hi all just joined the forum after months of just watching now to my question i use my system for home parties etc and i have a behringer amp that gives out 180w @ 4 ohm or 180 w @ 8 ohm but my speakers are 8 ohm is there any way i can change the impedence of my speakers without plugging another 8ohm speaker into each channel thanks guys for your anticipated responses

No. Not unless you want to use something like an old electric fire element as a power resistor. Don't go there. |

You could paralell the pair of 8 ohm speakers if the power rating is high enough basic resistance theroy I use this set up alot to get max output. BUT THE RATING HAS TO BE THERE. the theory series resistors add, paralell resistors divide, an electronics handbook can explain this better. Dave |

What model is the amp? 180 watts into 4 ohms AND 8 ohms isn't right. Also what model are the speakers? |

sorry guys my typing mistake its 180w @ 4 ohms but its only 100w @ 8 ohms its a behringer powered mixer no europower phm 518m would it be possible to run the behringer into another amp and just use the mixer and effects of it tahmks guys |

You can connect the main line output jacks of your Behringer mixer to an outboard amp. |

Well reading your original post, i'm not understanding what you are after? If you are connecting both your 8 ohm speakers to each 1/4" output on the back of the mixer/amp, then you are already getting your 4 ohm load as that is a parallel connection. Or are you just using the 1 Speakon connection in the middle? But again, what are the speakers you are using, the power the amp pushes could be seriously underpowering the speakers - 1) not making them sound as good as they can, 2) could possibly blow them if you need to turn the volume up? As to if you can connect an external amp to it & use it just as a mixer, yes you can. On the front is a jack marked "Amp Insert". You will need an insert cable which is this http://www.zzounds.com/item--HOSSTP20 Plug the TRS end (looks like a stereo headphone jack) into the mixer. The other plug marked "Ring" will go to the external amp input. The plug marked "Tip" would not be used in this situation. |
