Keep in mind singers like to perform. The bigger the audience the bigger the applause. They will just show up earlier next week as long as the talent stays top notch. |

When I get 50 people at my gig I will NOT be happy because I know that the singers won't be happy they only got one turn. But I will be happy with the business for the bar. Way to go |

Good job! Was something special going on to attract the huge amount? Special party? I had a 75 person round for my record somewhere around 93-94 (thank God it's never been close to that again). We had to run over about 45 minutes before the bar shut us down & around 12 people still didn't sing. 1 time for each person. This is back in laser disc days mind you (long load up time - up to 30 seconds per song). |

I would never let my rotation get to 70 people - I'll pick the books up when it gets to 25-30. That's a 2 hour wait. Most people won't hang around a bar longer than that to sing. In fact, the more I close in on #30, the more I find people have already left the bar. Now I guess this would be different at a school or an event where people plan to spend that length of time. If I have time left for people to sing, I'll put the books back out. That way I'm sure that someone is in the house and will respond to their name rather than, "Bueller? Bueller?" |

That was a great night for the bar. I wouldn't have liked it though. I'm kind of like Dan; if they have to wait that long, I would lose most of them. That would make for a really hard night to me. It's not unusual for mine to get around 20-25, and that's plenty long to my singers. However, not all people come to the bar just to sing. If they are partying, they're still going to be there when you call them. Good for you though! That means you know how to rock it |

OMG a 70 person rotation? If you have any regulars I would be willing to bet that most left early that night...the biggest rotation that I ever saw personally was 46 singers and that was a two song night for most of us regulars. Well, at least 70+ singers would not really be a "rotation" as everyone would only get one song in.... |

What a handful ! Congrats on the large rotation and staying alive to tell us about it. It takes skill to deal with that many people. |

WOOOWWW There is a serious problem that comes with success. Many singers will stay away for other shows where they can sing more. How many nonsingers were there? Was there any room for them? I hope i never get that many. People start to hate you at 30. 70 they would want a lynching. |

I think that your 70 person rotation should have been capped and restarted after the first 20 singers sang........unless all 70 people were there and signed up within the first 30 minutes of the start of the show. This situation looks like one where the very first singers were patiently waiting for their second turns but new singers kept showing up and that kept delaying the start of the "next" rotation. That's why I am a firm believer in a rotation that puts a singer who just sang a song, back in line as if he was a new singer just showing up and not being punished because he is a "old" singer. If there were only 10 singers when singer number 1 finished his first song; then singer # 1 would now become singer #11, regardless of how many singers showed up after he was done singing. The never ending first rotation is a very bad way to build up a following of regular singers. I don't think I would ever go back to a place that ran a rotation that way. One minute ypou think that you will be up in two songs and then 5 "new" singers come in. Now you have to wait for 7 songs. 6 songs later, you rthink that you're next and 5 more "new" singers sign up and you're pushed back again. You've been waiting well over an hour by now and people that are just getting there are getting put up to sing in hardly any time at all because they just happen to be getting there right before the "end" of that first rotation. Totally unfair to the people who show up early and often IMHO. |

Once it gets much above 30 for me I try to work the first singers back in. I try to make it so that any person who has stuck around the place 2 hours for a second song has a higher priority than someone in the bar for 30 minutes waiting to sing thier first song. Once the first rush of slips (1 hour or so) is over, I try to work the new singers in so they wait about as long as someone singing a second song. So a old singer might have to wait 2 hours to sing a 2nd song, same as someone waiting to sing their first song who just showed up. With 70 people you are in the 5-6 hour range. My big problem is that with busy nights when the rotation is pushing 50+ some people, especially non regualars sign up under additional (or fake) names to get two or more turns in a single rotation. This is especially difficult if they have friends turning in the slips for them. My regulars would get caught when I recognize them doing this but sometimes a non-regular slips through getting two turns, if they are an hour or more apart. Another problem with a 50+ person rotation is people sticking around for their turn. If anyone specifically has to wait for >3 hours it is common that they are gone when their turn comes, especially for non regulars. |

Yeah I hear you Angel. Once I get much past 20 I can expect some anxiety from the room. 70 is pretty much my whole night! We've been experiencing really long rotations this summer, and the only way I've found to calm the crowd is to make no bones about it. Once we get out more than an hour and a half I start announcing it. "We're now out over an hour and a half. Everybody please be patient with me - I've got you all lined up." And yeah some singers do leave, but it's very few and they're the type who would have anyway just waiting around that long. The manager's good with it and it gets them off my back so I can do my job better. The ones that stay understand the situation and accept it. |

70 isn't really a rotation because unless you have a 5-6 hour show, first ones in won't sing again. One of those double-edged swords certainly. (Although 15 singers an hour means 55-60 singers in 4 hours...so yah, you're looking at a very long show just to get everybody singing once and nobody sings twice.) |

No matter how you slice the rotation if there are 70 people singing..THAT"S CRAZY and you can not manage properly. And some feathers will get ruffled and some singer pissed |

This is a built-in limitation of Karaoke, a fact that we all need to acknowledge. |

The MOST i remember ever having was a 36 person rotation years ago. And it naturally pizzed off a lotta singers. I made it an a point since then to always start a new rotation at 15 singers, as that is about an hour, regardless of how many singers are walking in the door. Insert old singer/ new singer/ old singer method. This works great where i'm at and I will be happy to NEVER have a rotation that large and the STRESS that comes with it. I DO applaud you for dealing with it and handling it well, but it HAD to be difficult at times! There is such thing as TOO many singers! |
