Do you ever get that random person who is singing a song and answers their cell phone or write a txt while singing? Aaarg ! When it's real obvious I'll make a joke on the mic like: You can call your mother back when you're done singing. |

On occasion this will happen, more of the answering the phone, not so much the texting. Usually they just answer & say hold on during a quick breath in the song. |

It's not a prop for a song, "I just called to say I love you". |

What I can't get over is people texting ME their requests when they are sitting about 10 ft from the host booth. LAZY LAZY LAZY! I refuse those requests & tell them to walk their butts up! |

OMG I haven't had that happen to me yet, but I would announce that I don't accept texted requests. Most of my singers don't have my number anyway. I do have a guy that always calls someone when it is his turn and leaves the phone open on my table for them to hear. I don't have any idea who it is. I wouldn't be shocked if he just dials some random number and says,"Hey, listen to me sing. I am so wonderful!" He needs a lot of attention, I think. |

Isn't there a song called You Can Leave Your Hat On? Maybe it should be redone as You Can Leave Your Pager Off. |

When it's real obvious I'll make a joke on the mic like: You can call your mother back when you're done singing. or "Parole Officer"... which goes over really well at the biker bar I play at. |

I had someone texting once during their entire song... I was flabbergasted and mentioned something about texting addicts when they were done. The bar broke out in fits of laughter because I think they were as floored as I was... I find texting while in the company of others to be extremely rude. And yakking on the cell while you're in the company of others is equally rude. Either be out with your friends and enjoy their company while with them in person or go home.... As for my singers texting me, I don't give out my cell for that very reason. I use my cell for much more important things and if a singer can't get off his lazy duff to bring me his request, then he doesn't deserve to sing. Of course, I would never verbalize it that way to them... |

My young room is constantly texting throughout the night. If someone is texting when it's their turn, I'll usually put it to them something like this: "Jan this is your turn. But if you'd like to finish your text I'll skip to the next singer." They always put their cell down and come up. Virtually 100% of the time. I mentioned this in the KJ forum, but I take text requests and actually prefer them to someone coming up to me and shouting their next song in my ear. And I'm serious - they have to shout because we are running very loud. Texts also give me the freedom to enter it on my time - when I have a few seconds to do so. Texting the next singer up has been a real help this summer when the majority of the room can be outside. I don't have to go tracking them down. There's probably a dozen or so regulars who have my cell number. If any KJ is hesitant to give theirs out to karaoke singers, my experience is that they don't bother you at all outside of the room. Any texts I get other than song requests are from the singers whom I consider friends. So far I've never had a text come in that I made me think "Man I wish I hadn't given my number out to that one." edit: Oh yeah. At some point in the night I can expect a singer to read a text that comes in while they're on stage. That happens all the time. But I've only seen a singer respond and send a text out a handful of times - ever. They almost always wait until they're done. |

I did that once at Karaoke Cafe in Semore TN. I dialed a lady back in New Hampshire, and the MC held the phone for me. |

well I guess texting during ones song is slightly better than making a phone call while sitting on the loo....slightly better. Hmmm.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpPlzeK7RM |

My crowd definitely answers calls and texts while they sing. Doesn't bother me, though. I have a few of my regulars who will text me the first song they want to do while they are on their way to the bar. That doesn't bother me either. What does bother me, though, is that these days you can play MP3s off most cell phones the same way you play off the computer, and I have 4-5 peeps a night that want to be the DJ by playing what they call a "kickazz song that no one knows about." Of course, as a DJ, I'm in the business of playing songs everyone knows about, not discovering new thug talent, so I always have to shoot them down! |

We get a few "glancers" at incoming texts but my absolute favorite has to be the ones that sing while their bluetooth is hanging from their ear.....and blinking that annoying blue light. It really adds to the performance |

I had a guy once come up on stage talkin on his cell as his song started but he kept on talkin and looked over at me and asked if I could start the song over. I shook my head no and he muttered something under his breath all the while never hangin the phone up. He stared at the screen and then walked off still on the phone. All I can say is "Hang up and Sing" |

I don't carry hand phone ( that is what we call it here); leave it in the car. I don't normally answer phone if I don't expect a call. Abuse of cell phone is rude. |
