So another KJ wanted to sing at my karaoke gig on Saturday. Really bad. She was among the early crowd and got to sing several times in the first hour or two. As always happens at this place on Saturday, though, the rotation grew to 40 or so customers and people just get impatient. I explain to the customers why, they ask to be moved up, I explain why that's unfair, and they either wait or they don't. That's all I can do, and I don't mind doing it.
Except when it's another KJ doing it to me who has been trying to get a job at this venue. Who asks over and over throughout the night. And then tells me who they are like that's going to change my mind.
I felt like it was the polar opposite of professional courtesy, and I told this lady not to bother asking to sing with me again. I have had plenty of KJs come in and sing at my show, and I go to others. I have never treated anyone disrespectfully or asked to be treated better than other customers; and I don't expect that when I go to other KJs' places. Except this lady. I thought all KJs knew better than that, but I guess there are those who think they are better than everyone else.
Oh, and, I told the guy who books me that I don't want to work at this venue anymore (for unrelated reasons) 2 weeks ago, and they asked me to stay. So I'm not standing in the way of her getting a gig other than by doing the job the way I always do.

Sounds like she never really worked with large rotations so didn't know how to react to one? Maybe why she is 'looking' for new work?

I've had many KJs come in to my shows to sing also. They are usually very respectful, considering they understand my job. However, I've had a few of those also. Maybe not quite as brassy as she seemed to be. What did she say when you told her not to ask to sing with you again? Just curious.
You have to wonder how she runs her own gig.

Is her name Mrs. Woo? Or angel?
Seriously, I would just let it roll off my back, as irritating as it is and it sounds like you're already doing that.

If she doesn't understand that your rotation is fair to everyone, then I would bet that, as a KJ, she doesn't run a fair rotation, and that probably either is, or will be, her professional reputation, so I don't think you have anything to worry about with your gig. Just a nucience, like a cockroach.

Maybe she was hoping you'd lose you're temper and get yourself fired so she could step in!

I feel your pain. I have this married couple that comes in that are KJs. He runs the equipment and she helps out by getting the crowd going. They run their rotation willie nillie. They have a Friday night gig with a different caliber of crowd. They come in here and there and sometimes bring some of their regulars. Their regulars are used to bribing and getting treated with favortism. Aaarg !
Mrs KJ will bug me to put her friends in before their turn saying they tip well. Sorry I don't work that way. Her husband understands and will try to calm her down. I've also heard him explain to his friends I run my rotation different. They work in a small venue with very little singers. They only have this one gig and only make $100 a night for a Friday. Big difference. I don't care for their regulars and could careless if they come back. The one guy actually tore up a dollar bill into small pieces and put it in my tip jar because I wouldn't take a bribe. He was banned from singing after that stunt. A-hole !
Stick to your guns - you don't want people like that around anyway.
