I excerpted from a post on another site because it made me curious.
Does anyone here have any experience with this? Has anyone even heard of this tool? And especially for those of you who may be technically advanced in this digital realm, what might your thoughts be on any possible advantages (or disadvantages) this may provide?
I would like to suggest a nifty little piece of software that I've found
indispensable when running karaoke hosting software. It's called GameMode
and is a freebee at:
http://download.cnet.com/GameMode/3000- ... 07864.htmlAlthough it was designed for games that are huge resource hogs, I've found
it ideal to ensure no crashes and smooth running of a show. This software
will simply look at your computer's running processes, save them in a list
(ignoring the essential windows or system processes), kill (close) all the
non-essential process (non-systematic).
You start it up just before you start up your hosting software. When you
finish, click on Return to Normal Mode, and your ex-session is back.
…GameMode will make more memory and resources available.
It's very easy to install and uninstall if you don't like it and so simple
to use, one click on and one click off.
