Unless asked for, no. Broadway songs are not a hit in our club.

I get rare requests for Broadway songs, and most of those are for classics that are 10-20+ years old. I don't think my crowd knows recent Broadway too well.

I will definitely get it... even if I have no requests for it. I pride myself on building up my Broadway collection of music (even tho there are some out there that I will probably never purchase).

I personally think that if you dont have it in your book then how can anyone do it..case and point..I think that if alot of KJ would add broadway to their selections they might be surprised what people may do or try...last week I had someone do something from the Last Five Years...but I never heard of it..oh well it was done and very well i might add

Because in the 20 years i've been hosting karaoke, I have had only one request for any musical/broadway tunes & did buy them at that time for these particular requests. The requests got done once! And have never had any other requests or interest for these types of songs. When someone occasionally brings in their own disc & does them, the crowd response is usually WTF? We are primarily a rock/country crowd ages 20-40, showtunes are not their thing. So why would I waste money on a disc on the 'hopes' that someone will sing them when I can better spend that money on songs I know people want & ask for? If people were asking for these songs & they got done even on an occasion, then yes I would get them more often without hesitation. But it's not good business to spend money where it's not needed.

I am in complete agreement with Lonman. Which is why I only look for songs requested from regulars. Although I recently got the Taylor Swift Fearless karaoke disc for my collection before it actually got requested.
Turns out a customer for her daughter's birthday party asked for songs off of Fearless and I was able to tell her I had the whole album.

That's almost a gimme that Taylor songs will be done.

If I ONLY got what was requested then my book would maybe 90% 70s or 80s...boring...people need to be introduced to new stuff...not just requested...I have bought several disc on my own with out request and they get sung...although Broadway has never been requested I still get it and it gets done..I spend any where between $100.00 - 150.00 on new stuff every two weeks ..not every once in a while......no offense lonman but i saw your last update on new discs added.....just like another KJ here in town adds ...every once in a while...sorry but around here im always hearing well john dont have this...NO KIDDING!!!!!!...wonder why???? doesnt want to spend money.....my god folks ..you cant take it with you when you die!!!!! people come to my show expecting to see new stuff.....thats what makes me different..which is not bad..if we were all the same would be rather boring...but on the other hand...my selections stand on their own merit....

I have had several of Taylor's songs before getting Fearless and they have yet to be sung but I guess that'll change at the party.

I think it's great to try different songs. I hate it when people are stuck on the same old thing. My friend who is/was a KJ always got show tunes, even though he was the only one who sang them (he also acted in local theatre). I would have to say that response to his songs was favorable. I know my step-daughter is a big fan of the production "Rent" and she loves to sing music from that show. I like songs from "Le Mis". There is also a dinner theatre in our area that has karaoke in the bar area and show tunes are always big there...Broadway Baby.

Every once in a while? LOL, at least once per month minimum with 'new' stuff gets added, no I haven't updated my website in a while do to circumstances beyond my control, but the book is completely updated in the club!
Could really care less what you think (no offense) but then you are not the one I am trying to keep happy to returning to the show night after night, the customers get what they want and ask for, that is where the money shall go! Sorry, just not going to spend money in places it doesn't need to go! That's bad business.
Boring or not, bottom line - the customers return because I get what they ask for. If they want & start asking for showtune stuff, then that's what I shall get for them!
It also may be on the spot soon when downloads become available from the manus, so when they ask, they'll have the song that night - no more waiting a week or two. Still debating on whether I will go that route or not, but I am already setup for it & capable at the show now if/when that time comes.

At my Wednesday gig, the crowd is EXTREMELY diverse. Young (21+) and old, black or white, straight, and gay. We have just about every genre of music requested. This includes: Broadway, Country, 80's Pop, 70's Rock, 90's grunge/alternative, 90's Pop, current Pop, Motown, R&B, and Rap. You name it, they are here singing it.

We have at least 4 regulars that sing broadway songs every week. Even the people who aren't familiar with the song, appreciate and applaud the job they do.

I HAVE to have Broadway in my book.

Never had a request for it, won't buy it unless I can foresee a payback from it. Gotta agree with Lonnie on this.

Thats great ..but with that thinking YOU WOULD NEED TO BUY EVERY KARAOKE SONG EVER PRODUCED? That could get kind of expensive NO?

I'm gonna have to side with Lonnie on this one although I do have a couple of the basics in my library.

There is a gal at one of the venues I visit and she does "All That Jazz" every time, even though she has a great voice and can really belt it out the song makes no sense to me and is lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng and borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring.

Broadway is not an easy style to do and unless you know the show it might be a little hard to understand...most broadway songs tell about a feeling or event happening at that time ...plus they have alot more key & tempo change then your pop and country stuff.
