Do you sing any Dedications, or Tributes to anyone? (whether announced or not). I'm thinking like when Stevie Nicks starts the song "Landslide", she says "This ones for you daddy." I have several, but I RARELY sing them in public, because I almost NEVER make it through the song without the tears starting. My stepdad passed away a few years back, he and my mom used to come to karaoke to see my girlfriend and I sing. He loved Connie Francis, and my girlfriend would sing "Where The Boys Are" for him, and he loved it. She has that 50's type of voice. Great with Leslie Gore, Juice Newton, etc. She still sings it now, and dedicates it to Mick. Do any of you sing a certain song for someone?

Okay Jam your making me get teary eyed. What a wonderful story and how sweet are you ! Two thumbs up, 10 stars
Srnitynow - I'm sorry for your loss. I have a patron that always says, this ones for you mom before he sings. He doesn't do it on the mic only I can hear him. It's very touching.
I don't mind if someone says this song is for so & so before they sing. It's people that want to give a speech before and after they sing that I have a problem with.

Exactly & especially when a good hoppin' crowd, energy flowing & someone breaks in to dedicate a slow, sappy ballad to their Mom who died on this day 15 years ago and describes how the cancer ate her to the bones and......Kind of kills the energy of the crowd & the night sometimes. I don't mind a quick dedication, but don't go into detail.

Babs, and Lonman, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Dedication, off mic, then sing the song. Actually, only myself, and my mother even know that my girlfriend is singing a dedication. I guess if I really thought about it, "Where The Boys Are" would probably be one of HER "signature" songs. It's not the type of song that someone would associate with a dedication. I agree with Lonman, nothing can kill a mood like someone going into detail with their dedication, or tribute.

My only dedications or tributes are mainly for shock value and humor. When I dedicate this songs to all the ladies out there and then I go into Sublimes Date Rape.
When MLK day comes around I sing a song by Filter.
On April 20th comes around there's a lsit of songs I've got to do.

I don't even mind if it's on the mics, just say a quick line or 2 - "This goes out to Mom or _____", "I love you" or "I miss you" or "come home soon" or & leave it at that & sing.

For my late fiancé I'll sing Josh Groban's "To Where You Are" and sometimes I'll sing "One More Day" by Diamond Rio. I don't have to verbalize the dedication most of my regulars knew her as well and know why I sing what I do.
I have a Memorial page on my website for her. If you have time, stop by watch her nine-minute memorial video as well.
