I was curious that when I checked by facebook statistics I had 100% Democrats for friends, and 0% Republicans as a KJ, and that is for about 100 people that stated a prefference out of 300 facebook friends.

My city voted 66%-33% for Obama, but clearly my Karaoke people are more liberal than average for my area (or at least those on Facebook, which includes nearly all my regulars).

Do other KJs think that Karaoke singers are more liberal or less liberal then the general popluation of the area? Or is it more a factor of the venues that I run my shows at?

I know a few Republicans but they don't come to my shows. I have a Facebook page as a DJ that I keep separate from my other friends...

The bias seems to go beyond an age or location issue....

I think this belongs in the Lounge.

Most of my patrons seem to be republican.

Taliking partisan politics in a venue like a Karaoke show and especially when alcohol is involved could be problematic as I see music as being the bridge between often times hard feelings involving your guy v/s my guy politics. As long as you don't put it in my face that you support candidate D over candidate R (or vice versa) as politics is very personal for many people and we will get along just fine if politics isn't broached but once you bring it up the fur may start to fly between some people. I know, I'm fiercely partisan myself as are many of my friends and I must be mindful to not bring up politics or religion while out drinking and if it is broached then find a different part of the bar to continue my evening. My two cents worth FWIW.

I would NEVER give my political opinion at my show, it's a lose-lose situation. Even if you alienate 1 customer, you lose. Although most people can look at me, and pretty much guess what my political persuasion is, SOMETIMES. I say keep them guessing is the best policy.

The Plan

Robin Williams, wearing a shirt that says 'I love New York ' in Arabic.

You gotta love Robin Williams......Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!)

'I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan.'

1) 'The US will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good 'ole' boys', we will never 'interfere' again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany , South Korea , the Middle East , and the Philippines . They don't want us there.. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them..

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a 'D' and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH..learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?

'The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?' '

On the other hand politics do come up in a club setting. It does have bearing on karaoke itself as many songs have political messages.

I know my crowd after a long time working with them, but I do outside gigs where I may be less familiar with the crowd.

I know that some of my songs have political messages inside of them, like many music songs. This can go for both politically left and right songs.

It may be important to know if a song is going to offend, and trust me a political song can offend some people as much or more than profane language.

I took extreme pain with my post NOT to show a bias one way or another.

Different people have different standards of "acceptable" and a crowd that may accept F-Bombs may be hostile to a song that may have a pro-military message for example.

As KJs we have to learn what is going to work in our setting. It was a fair and honest question.

By far there are more Republicans than Democrats in our local karaoke hangout. Bottom line, karaoke and trying to have fun in a club does not mix well with talking politics. There's plenty of time the rest of the week to be serious. Heck I'd rather talk to an insurance salesman all night then get dragged into a political argument at a karaoke club! LOL If you want to talk politics in a bar then pull up a seat at a local pub where there's no karaoke or live music. That's my two cents worth anyway. :)

Take away the media, all the knotheads on TV that know what this country needs and all the radicals on the interenet. Then you will have to start communicating with your neighbors again and people standing in store lines. You will find out that 90% of the people in the world are honest hard working parents that just want to exist with the basic things and live in peace. I say talk talk talk and open up to strangers and then you will find out what is going on. They are neither republican or democrat.

You will also find out the streets are not as dangerous as they say. I have also found out that most of the singers at karaoke are generally more well adjusted and down to earth than most.

I never, EVER, even mention politics or religion at a gig.

I avoid it like the plague also, but I do hear people talking about it.
