I like the topic by Babs, "over done", but it got me thinking With you KJ's, I can see songs getting old \ over done for you when you're doing several gigs a week, 52 weeks a year. I didn't post on hers because Turn the Page was mentioned and is really the only bothersome one for me. My question to you KJ's is: As a singer, is there a song in your eyes that isn't sung enough or at all, and should be? Whether it be just because you really like the artist, or like the song for no apparent reason. Or, it's a great crowd song and really gets your show going. Or really fun bar song, or upbeat music....... I think you know what I'm askin'. |

I think if I had to pick what is NOT being sung enough, it would be, R&B. Maybe like some Earth, Wind, and Fire, or Temptations, Four Tops, and the list goes on and on. There are so many good songs that could get a party going, but for SOME reason, NOBODY tries to sing it. I know this stuff is "old school", but it STILL can get the party going. Srnitynow |

Earth Wind and Fire can be tough to sing, but I like hearing it also. I like the Pioneer laser disc video for Sing a Song. Hmmm....here's a song I'd like to hear someone sing: A New York Minute, Ronnie McDowell, Chartbuster |

Srnitynow I think you're right on with the "old school" stuff. I notice alot of that stuff gets the place kickin'. I'll look into these suggestions to see if I can handle them. Thanks |

I try and do songs out of the norm that I think will get the crowd going or at least make them go hmmm, lately I've added some songs to my repertoire that I've have never heard anyone else do. The Killing Moon - Echo & the Bunnymen All these things that I've done - The Killers Flag Pole Sitta - Harvey Danger Bullet the Blue Sky ( U2 cover ) - P.O.D. Look What You've Done - Jet You May Be Right - Billy Joel Jail Break - Thin Lizzy Yellow - Coldplay Wherever You Will Go - The Calling High And Dry - Radiohead Some of these songs are on the alternative side and some are songs that were never huge hits but the one thing I think they have in common is for me they are fun songs to sing. Out of all these songs I think The Killers song is the one that people seem to ask about the most. I am curious if most KJ's would even have some of these songs. |

Another thing NOT OVER DONE, is Beatles Songs. With ALL the Beatles songs that are out on karaoke, I don't see many people singing it. For that matter, not much of the Rolling Stones, although they don't have half as much as the Beatles on karaoke. Srnitynow |

Srnitynow Agree totally. Also, Beach Boys...I don't have many BB's songs because nobody ever asks for them. |

Had a couple beers Thursday as I didn't have to work the next morning. Went for Oh Darling and my voice hung in there and I nailed it! I love Beatles songs. I'd like to hear people sing more old time rock n roll and I dont specifically mean the BS song. |

I have a chitload of Beatles -- surprisingly not a lot of them get sung. Will probably order some Beach Boys -- I do have a lot, after I looked at my book - just didn't remember because NOBODY SINGS THEM! |

Beatles' songs are great but most of them are very short and I think that some people feel cheated when they sing such a short song after waiting an hour or more to sing. |

Beach Boys songs are tough to sing. I've embarked on a few and then realized I was singin in "rough waters." Even what seems like it should be an easy song such as Surfer Girl has some pretty high notes in it. I mean I was part way through the song and all a sudden wanted to take a cigarette break myself! |

The Beach Boys rarely get done here in hawaii with all their great songs, so i've recently removed them from the books. The Beatles are requested once a month at Show#1 and usually by the japanese crowds. Every once in awhile i'll perform the Stars On 45's Bealtles Medley at Show#2- where the crowds are ahem, more mature. I think someone mentioned the short length of thses songs. That IS why a lot of my singers won't sing them, or Elvis songs either. WHY wait an hour to sing a 2 minute song? |

Never thought thought about that -- the length of the songs, I mean. My Thur/Fri crowd loves to hear a good singer's version of "O Darlin'" and they all sing along to "Come Together" -- They also sing along to "Hey Jude" (I'm talking about non-singers now). Everyone seems to know the songs and occasionally I will just put up a song like Hey Jude, nobody at the mic, and the whole room sings it. |
