Hi guys, I have a load of par 36 pin spots that I never used. I would like to put something over them to give them a wider beam. Some sort of diffuser that can handle the heat. Any ideas ? |

Change the bulb to something with a wider angle flood reflector. Something like this should do the trick: http://www.1000bulbs.com/PAR36-Halogen- ... hts/29304/ |

Yes, they are hard to get in the UK & expensive. Around $16. I was thinking of using a diffusing glass over the bulb or even grinding the bulb glass with a grinding paste for diffusion. I want something for saturday. It makes no difference if I destroy some bulbs. I would not use pin spots. |

You could try a diffuser, but remember that you'll lose a great deal of intensity (Illumination) by doing so. On a par 36 we're already talking about a pretty low light bulb, if you take that and spread it with a diffuser, the reduction in illumination will be very significant. |

Well of all things, a clear plastic bag held not too tightly over it works perfectly. I only need something dim to light the faces up a little. I mainly use back lighting. Just got to work out how to hold the bags in place about an inch or two from the bulb. |

I've done it with a glass fresnel lense. Heat resistant, widens the beam, and no discernable loss of brightness.... |

Be careful with the Par can lights. Unless they are LED lights, the traditional lights are meant for about 50% duty cycle. That means that if you leave it on all the way 100% of the time, they will not last long. If you are putting any kind of obstructions in the front that prevents air flow, you may be shortening the life of the bulb due to heat. |

I was looking for those. The only ones I can find are the plastic page magnifiers. They do work. At the last minute I pulled out and got an LED panel. £140 GBP. Gives out the same amount of light as the par 36. Nearly. It changes colour and does sound to light. And it will probably stop me burning the place down. |
