Looks like the time change is this Saturday, on Halloween. I thought I'd give everyone the heads up because I know for me this will mean working 2 extra hours. I normally will go an extra hour on a holiday gig than add the time change(the bar can stay open longer) and I'm working even longer. Woo hoo that's an extra $100 in my pocket, but a very long night ! |

Some bars take advantage of the extra hour. Ours won't since the time change happens at 2 technically, we have everyone out by quarter to 2. We don't run on bar time either so no extra. |

Although I am not working this Saturday in the past the bars never stayed open the extra hour . I think it was a law ? not quite sure |

My bar closes at 1 so no extra time but the bar on the way home closes at 2 and so gets the extra hour. (Which I get to take advantage of) http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/daylight_time.php |

At our local place, I've been there a couple times when the clocks are rolling back... they can't legally stay open. They said Oregon laws don't allow it. So, they close at 2:30 as normal, which is in actuality, only 1:30 after the time change. Kinda sucks, imo, that ya can't take advantage of it for an extra hour of karaoke:) (Babs, can I come to your Halloween party?) |

Of course you can come - I need all the hot mommas there I can get. The bar has a 3am license. I think our laws state if you have a 2am license or later you get the extra hour. That means the bar can actually stay open until 4am if you don't adjust your clocks. I start at 9pm. As long as the crowd holds out I'll be there which means I possibly could be working 7 hrs without a break. This will be my 6th Halloween here and I can't ever remember it landing on the same night as the time change. It will be interesting that's for sure. |

An extra hour of singing and drinking, or I should say drinking and sing sounds nice Babs, but the Halloween factor added in with the time change on a Saturday night, sounds beyond the relms of possibility for me. You know more police than normal will be out because of that. Trick or treat is start time for our block, and that makes a long, long day. If we go out, we will be smart and use a cab to get home because of the above tangibles. Babs, let us know how the night worked for ya with the extra hour. |

I've worked on time change nights before, just not on Halloween. I'm actually thinking it will make it easier on me because I'll have more time to get more singers in. |

Hello All, bigger bars typically will shut down. The small local bars will have more of a tendency to stay open. Here in PA, by law, the bars do have to close but I'm told it's how much of a nuisance bar they may be I have three different scenarios: 1) bars say to me you can stay if you want but we won't pay you extra. 2) bars will pay the extra time 3) we've 'passed the hat' and those who pay get to sing. You'd be surprised about how much money you could collect Jason |

My Saturday bar always stays open the extra hour. I don't get paid more, though. |

No doubt...what a great place, Lonnie. It would be PERFECT but for the cig smoke! Just spoiled. We had a great night, too. Not a lot of costumes, though everyone looked right past me in my '60s Janis Joplin getup. Nobody recognized me until I walked up and talked to them! Too funny. Did a 25-question trivia quiz in the middle of the evening which was a great success, great way to keep everyone involved. People from my show were there for the start, and some wandered out to other venues (there are at least 6 within walking distance of my show), and the majority of them came back. Oh, and $50 bonus, too. |

I love Halloween ! I worked 2 extra hours and made an extra $100s. Woo hoo ! Just about everyone was in costumes and boy there was some good ones. It really was a nice night. Although there was a horribly long rotation I had no complainers. |

Ha! Both Iowa and Illinois stay open an hour late. Of course if the bar doesn't want to, they don't have to but from an owner's standpoint, I'm sure there are lots of dollar bills to be made. The bar I play at had 2 bands and ran out of beer. |

BTW, the bonus was just for putting in time to do things like picking up booby prizes, etc., not for working over. I love my gig - outta there by 11:30 at the latest... |
