Post subject: | Mixing/Speaker Question |
Let me preface this with the fact that the bar owner turned the left speaker to face a wall instead of the bar because it was too loud for him sometimes. We have a Yamaha MG82cx and at our halloween gig, I went over by the left speaker and the voice was overpowering the music although the balance's were set to center. Could this be a problem with the speaker itself? It is an old Ross speaker. I have a hard time believing it may be the mixer. Thanks, Kevin |

If it was the vocals overpowering it would seem that there is something possibly wrong with the mixer outputs (although probably not if you were getting full volume on vocals), dirty pots/fader shorting out one channel on the music, possibly a bad cord on the music between the player & mixer. Check all connections, reverse the cords on the music right to left & vice verse. Check all pots & faders on the mixer channel - again could have a dirty section that is preventing the signal going to the main output. |

I'll give that a try, thanks. |

I'm assuming the speaker is a 2-way (woofer + horn). It could be a problem with the speaker's internal crossover network that perhaps the woofer isn't getting the full power it should. I think more likely is that there's a connection issue somewhere as Lon described. |

I'll be back at the bar tomorrow night so I will play with it. It's a pain the way he moved it. I can really only hear the right side from where I'm at so I have to keep walking over to it after making an adjustment. It is a two-way which did have a connection problem a few weeks ago. The jack was loose but I took it down and fixed that problem. |

Well it must have been a loose connection last week because this week it was fine. Thanks for your help! |
