I'm just wondering if anyone has used either one of these mixers and I want to get their opinion. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=500316 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=631368 |

A guy I work with has the larger version of the Peavey, the PV20. He's not been happy with it at all. It's less than a year old and has already been in for service twice. Both times he was given a Yamaha as a loaner console and he's been working the guy at the shop to try and trade even up for the Yamaha. I've played with his Peavey a bit in his basement (not at any gigs though) and found it feels very cheap. The feel from one pot (knob) to the next varies greatly and the faders have almost a grinding feel to them (they're not smooth like they should be). I haven't had a chance to play with the new ProFX line of Mackie consoles yet. The reviews I've read have been all around quite good. Everyone I've read or talked to has said that they're definitely a step up from the CFX line in terms of pre-amps and effects quality. I have a CFX12 that does pretty good for me. It's not a spectacular board, but for the price it's rock solid, dependable and at least feels good under my fingers. I know that's not really the experienced user information you're looking for but I hope it helps. |

I've been using the Profx12 for about 6 months now. It's definately 5 steps up fron the old dfx12 i was usnig before. Cleaner sound and more responsive. |

Since I run a PC based system, I was also looking for a way to streamline the audio connection through the mixer. I know there are other options available for external sound, but I'm a cheap bastard and I'm trying to get the best sound for the cheapest price and the fewest "add-ons". Yes, I know they are normally mutually exclusive, but I'm going to do my damndest! |

Sorry to over post, but I forgot to ask. How useful are the effects that are built into the board for vocals? |

I'm not sure how to answer "How useful are they" exactly but the EFX units do have a set of vocal reverbs to choose from. If the question is could you use the on-board EFX instead of a separate out-board unit, absolutely and I think you'd be pretty happy with the results. |
