I'm curious. I'm considering using Karma to run my karaoke shows. (Sick to death of cds!) It's easier to ask here than to read the entire help file and still not find my answer! Can I play a customer disc using my plextor drive in Karma without ripping? |

I've been playing with the free trial version of Karma and don't think that it supprts that feature. I tried to add my disc drive to the library and it would not work. One solution would be to keep a player AND your laptop hooked up with a video switcher, so you can choose which player you want to go to the monitor screen. I'm still trying to decide if I really need Compuhost, or if Karma will suffice. |

But Compuhost has the next best thing- the ability to keep your scroller while playing off an outside player by using a video capture device to run the video from your outside player into the computer. Just a click of a button and it switches between the outside player and the internal player without loosing the list of who's up. |

Well, after loading the database, Karma wouldn't load. Upon a restart of the computer it seems to be working but that one little glitch makes me wary. I do plan on keeping the cdg players and will put it on a switch to toggle back and forth from laptop to disc. I heard compuhost doesn't allow for outside disc's either. And I really didn't care for compuhosts program. The filler music feature has no features really. Since at my gigs filler music is pretty important to the crowd, I need to be able to 'mix' songs for dance sets. Karma has a cool 'start' and 'stop' feature where you can cut the intro and outro from the song AND the auto fader is awesome. It's such a pain to try all the demo's trying to decide which one to get!! |

I wrote to Latshaw Systems and asked the question. "Will Karma ever include a way to play customers discs from the computers CD drive or will we always have to have an outside player?" and the answer was "Probably not. It would be a lot of work and CDs are becoming more rare by the day. I predict in about 5 years or so, they will be hard to find. We'd like to see a world where files are moved around, not discs. We purposefully made Karma's trial mode limitations in a way that people could use it for free from home. With that line of thinking, your customers will eventually have MP3+G files of their own and bring you a flash drive with their songs on it instead of discs." I'm guessing they don't understand that some KJ's will not plug a flash drive into their equipment for fear of a virus and CD's becoming more rare??? Do they really think the music industry will ever quit making CD's to sell and go totally digital. The day that happens the music industry will fold due to the fact that NO ONE will have any proof that they actually bought the music. Of course this is one mans prediction. |

This is surprising, and it's definitely the first time I've ever heard this one. In fact, in my opinion CH's Fillertunes player is the most advanced, full featured one in the industry, far more powerful then the simple single deck players found in the competition. I'm able to very easily put together dance sets, in fact I can easily DJ a whole evening from it. What is it you are trying to do that CH's Fillertunes player cannot? |
