I used the Numark CDN 25+G and it worked just fine. Eventually I switched to PC and have put a cheaper CDG/DVD player in my rig for backup. The backlighting on the numark stopped working and it isn't user friendly to try and fix.
It would play CDGs only but it played them well (it was picky with some burned discs)

Go vintage ! We've had a couple posts this yr that some good ones were listed on ebay and craigs list. My favs Pioneer PD-V10G, RSQ MV-333 Triple Tray. I haven't heard of any of the newer ones on the market working as well for load time and durability. Good luck ! Sometimes you can even find someone on the forum getting rid of theirs.

Yup, if you can find 'em, vintage is the way to go. The Numark is nice, but doesn't have Keychange. Though I have it on my mixer, I like the idea of player effects for backup.

@JC: I'm looking into that but would rather opt into a non rack-mounting one.
@Babs: PD-V10G... saw one on ebay but I ended up getting a single tray Acesonic DGX-210. Feature set is very nice for $100 and the added CD+G to MP3+G would give my desktop and laptop a rest Hope this thing will endure roadies
Anyone has one or tried this DGX-210???

As far as I know the Numark model is no longer in production. I have one, love the heck out of it. Had it for over 5 flawless years. Wanted to get a second one, but no matter who or where i went, they couldn't seem to be able to order one. So, I bought an RSQ single tray player instead, can't remember the model off hand, but it works pretty good too. Only issue I have with it is, if the remote kicks the bucket, it will make things much harder to operate.

The Numark CDN 25+G is the discontinued model. Great player in my opinion, at least it has been for me. I know some people have had their share of lemons with Numark.

Most likely he was referring to
http://www.numark.com/cdn25g
It's basically a dj player that has a video out for graphics. Don't have much more as far as key change ability, other than the pitch wheel - not useful for karaoke IMO.
The Pioneer V10 & JVC Triple trays are two of the better players out there if you can find them, complete workhorses.

Buy yourself a universal remote for a few bucks and "train" one of its modes it to emulate the important functions of your remote. Decent insurance.

I had a lemon problem with a numark cdn25 many years ago. It was purchased new and used as a backup. The first night it was used it had loading problems and garbled lyrics, not to mention skipping regualr music discs. It was promptly returnedto GS.
I was fortunate to have been referred to the JVC xl-sv22 single tray and have used 5 of them. I also bought a RSQ cheaper version of the JVC (same assembly line but with cheaper optics and more inferior plastic gears) but that one was used only in the office and started having problems after a year. The JVC TRIPLE TRAYS i've never used, but a lot of local kjs swear by them.
Seeing as i've been mobile forever, i used for a short time (other than the JVCs) a vocopro 8000 and 9000 dual cd/cdg player, but BOTH started garbling lyrics after 6 months and weren't the easiest to open and clean. The vocojunk also didn't have key changes just like the numark, which was troublesome.
I've since returned to a single tray, although slow loading, but the cavs203g is able to play my music dvds and cdgs flawlessly, has key changing abilities on the front of the units face, so you're NOT stuck having to use a remote control like with MOST units.
Someone here recommended the V2GO unit a few months back and i think it may be a dual tray cdg player.

I have owned the Numark CDN 25+G for about three years and have had no trouble with it. If I were to buy another disk player, I would get the same model.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a DJ style dual CD+G deck with a mixer that has DIGITAL key control instead of jog wheels. I've only hosted occasionally so far and I'd like to do it two or three nights per week in 2010.
I would still host using my laptop primarily, but the places I've hosted at have tons of people who bring their own discs. So far I haven't found an acceptable player for a reasonable cost that loads quickly and that has a good and reliable digital key change.
I've looked on ebay and almost all DJ style dual deck machines use jog wheels and pitch bend, not digital key change. Anything with digital key change is really expensive.
I'm leery of the old Pioneer, JVC etc. single, double and triple tray machines that were built like tanks and worked great because they're sooooo old now that who knows how long they're going to keep working??? sigh . . . . .

The Numark CDN 25+G seems to be a model that either works well and works long, or it breaks down pretty early. One or the other. I have heard lots of people say that one side goes out fairly early in its use, or lots of people say have had zero issues. It's just a crap shoot i guess. But aren't most pieces of electronic equipment? They either work or they don't. Go figure.

Stogie i don't think one exists at this point does it? If you had a static install and weren't mobile, perhaps having two cavs 203g set up with a video switcher would be an option. Although slow loading, they can be loaded and paused on track so you wouldn't be wasting time in getting the your singers started.

I've seen rack mount Karaoke mixers with digital key control, but they are like $400-$650 or more just for the mixer Then add a DJ style dual KARAOKE capable CD deck for another $250-$350 and to me we're talking about some serious money IMO. I've seen lots of mixer/ DJ style dual CD deck combinations but every one of them has jog wheels for pitch bending not digital key control.
I don't understand why there isn't a DJ style CD deck that plays Karaoke discs that has digital key control or a combo mixer and DJ style dual CD Karaoke capable deck for around $350 or even less? It's a real pain in the A S S to play customer discs!!! It seems really difficult to be computer based AND play customer discs. Old school players have composite out, my laptop has VGA for external displays and I use a LCD screen with VGA input. Switch boxes are a pain in the butt too.
Pitch bend for key change isn't a good way to go IMO.

I found the Pioneer dual tray to be the best. It's tolerance level for smudges and dirt is better than any other player i've seen.

I use the Citronic CD-1X Dual CDG Player as a back up karaoke player and IMO the pitch control is very good as acting as a key change.
http://www.disco-world.co.uk/karaoke-eq ... d_135.html
But I am yet to use it for karaoke. I'm still using two JVC players (three tray and one tray... two separate rigs) which haven't let me down.
