My laptop is several years old......I have been using the headphone out with a stereo mini plug to get sound to the sound board. But the plug is worn out...and makes a humming noise...and sometimes does not connect fully. What should I use???? Some type of USB sound card?? Any suggestions??? |

Here is something very reasonable: Behringer USB Sound Card. http://cgi.ebay.com/Behringer-U-CONTROL ... %26ps%3D63 If you want something better quality I suggest: http://www.amazon.com/ESI-GIGAPORT-HD-G ... B001F7MGW2 |

thumb type sound card, nothing really special but would be a stepup on some of the ones installed in most laptops http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6829118107 if you want to rid of that mini plug to rca adaptor... this would be better than the thumb card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6829102020 if I have to buy once... this on the other hand is what I would recommend a very versatile piece of equipment and has the type of I/Os I need http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6829121012 |

Stay away from Sound Blaster if you want good sound. I've never liked any of the results from any SB card i've had. The ESI & M-Audio units are much better & are of pro sound quality, however a little pricy. Look into the Lexicon Alpha, won't break the bank, but is great sounding interface that rivals (or betters) my $200 internal M-Audio card on my PC. http://www.zzounds.com/item--LEXALPHA |

I use this device. If you also do DJ/Beatmixing work and need multiple channel outs, this is a great unit. Works perfectly with PCDJ-red and Compuhost. If you only need a single channel out, you can find single channel devices for less. |

http://www.zzounds.com/item--LEXALPHA Sorry, don't agree SB will give you a good sound, they're not studio cards except for their pro EMU series but I wouldn't say they don't give good results! If you're using an older laptop with a PC Card slots, you might want try to find the SB Audigy2 ZS PCMCIA card, that is one good card and you won't need to carry an external USB device |

I use a SoundBlaster X-Fi external sound card that sounds great and has been going strong for about 2 years now. Plugs into the USB port and upscales the fidelity of MP3s and other compressed file types (like MP3+Gs). They can be found new on EBay for around $35.00-50.00: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017QQQAE/ref ... B0017QQQAE |
