So last week a song that was played had some scrambled graphics. I made a note of it and put it in my billfold. Yesterday I found the note and decided to check and see if I needed to rerip that song. I played the song once, twice and again a third time with absolutely no scrambled graphics. What would cause a song to have scrambled graphics one time and then play perfectly 3 times in a row? |

Are you watching it exactly like you had it set up before? Was it on the computer's screen or the singers monitor? Could it have been a loose cable? |

I played the song once, twice and again a third time with absolutely no scrambled graphics. What would cause a song to have scrambled graphics one time and then play perfectly 3 times in a row? Played it how? Digitally or on a CDG player? It makes a difference. I guess "rerip" indicates digitally. If it was a CDG player, it just means whatever obstacle -- be it a piece of dust or smear on the head or the disk -- didn't affect playback after it was removed. In the case of a digital playback, it would be almost impossible if you had ECC on your disk and your RAM. But if you have SDRAM it could be (literally) a cosmic ray that knocks a bit out of alignment and causes an error. In the old days, when DRAM cell sizes were so large, it was a common occurrence. Nowadays, it is very uncommon, but it still can happen. Or you could have had a disk error in some fashion, probably more likely. There is ECC there, usually, but it's hard to say what could happen between the platter and memory. If I had to guess the most likely cause, it would be a USB disk connection. Despite the crapola lathered on by some, the cables, wires, extra circuitry, and power supply problems of a USB disk make them much less reliable than an internal disk. And what brand? One bit would be unlikely to cause a major problem with Sound Choice or other screen-clearing wipe styles. But with the line-by-line of Chartbuster or DK, one or two bits can knock off the whole thing. You might check your system logger and see if you have any reported disk errors. |

Was it on the computer's screen or the singers monitor? Could it have been a loose cable? Watching it on the same laptop. When it happened it was both on my KJ screen (on the laptop) and on the singers monitor and the other 3 TVs. Don't believe it was a loose cable, but then anything is possible. I do do a cable check before every show, but who knows. |

It happens about once a month on the hardrive-based jukebox player at my bar. A track will start to play and then have scrambled graphics. If you go back to the begining of the track, sometimes it plays fine. Usually, you have to re-boot the windows based player, and then it plays correctly. |

It wa being played digitally. The library is on the internal hard drive, not on a USB HD. It was a Sound Choice song. Oh well, I just found it strange as to why it would happen and then not happen. Next gig I will play the song (before start time), just as set up before when it did occur and see if it happens again. Thank you for your input, I will let you know if it happens again after playing as above. |

My guess is you're playing from a zip file on the fly. The zip file is extracted to a temp location while it's played. For whatever reason, the temp file was corrupt. Since it's created each time, it's fine now. |

There isn't that much that can get wrong. Is there any possibility there is more than one rip of that song on your drive? Or could it have been the second time or a restart of the song? With Windows, which I don't trust much, I wouldn't put it past the disk caching algorithms to fudge something up. |

No, that is the oly rip of that song. Now, If my memory serves me correctly there was a restart of the song involved. |

Now I will have to run some tests to see if I can duplicate it. Perhaps rather than just restarting one should actually re-enqueue the song. |

I had a similar problem last year where some songs would display graphic problems & even just stop playing. I checked the files at home & they played fine, and would even play fine the next night but would get scrambles on other songs. Turns out my hard drive AND motherboard were going out, replaced both & all is good. Could be a possible reason. |

Available system resources would cause this problem. You might have had some other programs or background programs playing at the time of the scrambled lyrics that were pushing the system resources hard. I used to have that problem every so often when I used my personal home laptop for karaoke as well. Now, I have a dedicated karaoke laptop and deleted every other program that is not essential for karaoke/DJ from the laptop. That ensures no system resource issues and no viruses |

this is when you check you pc's resources. Run task manager and kill unnecessary programs running in the background. When your pc runs out of resources, it goes into page file mode which degrades performance. |
