Just had a great on-line buying experience from Acclaim Sound and Lighting in Canada..... NOT! I placed an order on Tuesday morning for two items, one at $1080.00 and the other at $249.99. This morning I contacted the store by phone because I had not heard from them (they are s'posed to phone for order verification). Was informed that the $249.99 item was not in stock but they could change the order to another almost identical item of a different brand. This other brand is heavier and therefore would not qualify for free shipping as the other one did. Told them I would think about it and call back. meanwhile I was sent an email with the adjusted invoice indicating I would owe an extra $80. When I called back and advised them I would pass on the item that was out of stock, but still wished to purchase the $1080.00 item, I was then informed that that particular item was now not $1080.00 but $1559.99! That's a 44.44% increase! Their system of doing business seems pretty cagey to me. Told them to cancel the whole order and went to Axe Music where I can get the same item for $1350. |

Murrlyn, the old "bait and switch" routine is found in every country, which is why one must be careful when buying anything from any company, anywhere. Remember, buyer beware. |

In New Zealand, the Commerce Commission would frown heavily on such practice.... hefty fines would likely be imposed on such an infringement of consumer rights. The sales rep called me back and said he'd spoken to their supplier and could offer me a price of $1299. Said that they "really want to move this item" off the shelves... He didn't say much when I suggested selling it at the advertised price was probably a good step in that direction! Ok, so $1299 is cheaper than Axe's price.... but who'd you rather do business with? |

I agree it's a universal ploy, and not just a Canadian problem......with all the "bait and switch situations" I've come across, I should have been hooked, reeled in, cooked and eaten about a thousand times by now..... and I'm not even very high in Omega 3.......... |

That kind of business practice is also frowned upon in Canada and DOES carry it's penalties as well. However, unless it's reported, then how can they do anything about it? Here's a link with more information and the contact information to the Competition Bureau, which handles these kinds of complaints. http://competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site ... 00258.html |
