Ya know, on a slow night a KJ can start praying for things to pick up, asking the lord almighty to take time out of his busy schedule to intervene and get some customers in the bar.
Let me advise you all out there, if you are going to call out to God for such intervention, be more specific, because God has a nasty sense of humor.
Tonight was a slow night. Yes, I had the temerity to invoke divine intervention and said, "God, please send me some singers." And God did. He sent me "Daisy Duke."
Let me tell you about the self named Daisy Duke. Daisy is quite well known in karaoke circles in these parts, with giggles and gapping mouths aplenty, for Daisy Duke was once an unattractive old man, who is now an even more unattractive old "woman."
I kid you not.
Picture a wrinkled old man with a blond wig, fake breasts, and a taste for female clothing 50 years too young and poorly coordinated and you've got it.
I can't vouch for the completeness of the transformation, but the breast augmentation was proceeded by a month of bragging by said Daisy Duke... "Hey, next month I'm going to get my tits!"
The only thing more perilous than having to hold a conversation with Daisy, is trying to determine which bathroom Daisy will use. I can tell you I was at a club one night to have the traumatic experience of walking in seeing "Daisy" standing at the urinal.
So, all you KJs out there, if you're having a slow night, and consider voicing a call to the almighty for some singers, BE SPECIFIC!!

All I can say is "been there done that". We have our own Daisy Duke. Thankfully, she doesn't sing though...

Years ago (in New Orleans), I knew a guy named Otto, by day, and he was Marlene Dietrich by night. Same scenario you described, the WORST clothes, lipstick covering WAAAY over the lips, unkempt wig, and make-up like a clown. Every day at work he would talk about his ESCAPADES of the night before on Bourbon Street. Of course he was ALWAYS with the most MANLY MAN in the French Quarter. Nice guy, just VERY disturbed!!!!

Sorry for this necessary and sobering post. And in adding my 2 cents I must also state that while I hate "political correctness", this is not such a matter.
I know about transsexuals, my wife deals with them on a daily basis. Their persona are not part of some bizarre game they play to shock others. They are trying to find their place.
Some have chosen to include surgery in their efforts. Some would like to but don't have the money. Some, go through limited cosmetic procedures and some undergo a full surgical transformation.
Unfortunately, because of their own ignorance, money factors, societal pressures, and related factors many of those who go through their transformation begin doing so in their later years. And the first step may simply be cross-dressing.
There is no place, including this forum, where they should be scorned. For many of them, what they are doing is courageous. Could you imagine being a 50 year old male and telling yu 30 year old son that you are transforming into a female?
You, as a host, should refer to the person in the gender they portray and respect the person as you would any other singer

Did you infer from my post that somehow I was nasty or disrespectful to this person? That I did not cater to Daisy's song requests and encourage Daisy for a song well sung? I don't think I did. Because, if you think I acted unprofessional here, then you don't know me. That still doesn't change the out right freakishness... and I'm an open minded person with gay friends. I smiled, and I did my job.
I actually have two other transexual singers, and when it comes to Daisy, even they are like, "What the ...?" Daisy, for the most part still walks and talks like a man. A bizarre, and rather crass character to be sure (I even gave you a direct quote from Daisy). Certainly not my preference for "only singer of the night" to be quite frank, which was my point that apparently you missed.
My post was meant to be humorous, and express my inner feelings of frustration here among fellow KJs, but certainly not an example of how I would treat another person regardless of my personal feelings.
Frankly, your post was neither necessary, or sobering.

KK, your post was great -- at times it is necessary to put aside PC and at a gut level appreciate something that someone is brave enough to write. This is not a 100% open forum - in other words, someone could end up here by accident, being "forced" to read something that was offensive.
I don't think any of us (though I may be wrong here) would treat a person like Daisy Duke without the requisite respect -- but your account, KK, was very comical and on this morning when once again I've had too little sleep, it brought a smile to my face -- PC or NOT! Thanks for the chuckles.

I guess I can understand where you're coming from Tovmod, but I don't see ANYWHERE in ANYONE'S post where they were scorning any of the people mentioned. Transvestites, OR transexuals DO have many problems, and if you know as much as you say you do, you also know that MOST are under some kind of psychiatric care. That's not a put-down, that's a fact. As a matter of fact, they CAN'T get a sex change without YEARS of psychiatric therapy. That's another reason for the late age factor, and lack of COMPLETE sex change. For MOST, it's too expensive, OR too much hastle, or they're just too confused. REALLY a sad way to live.

This guy sounds like he would be an odd ball even if he didn't want to be a women. I've had my share of karaoke characters, but never a cross dresser, unless it was Halloween.

My tuesday gig is at a lesbian bar. And it's quite common for the entire types of the gay community to support this club. It's an awesome place, really! They support me all the time, and I thouroughly enjoy them coming out (no pun intended). Yes, I even get the cross dressers, and even had one tranny who was actually quite talented. One of the regulars is a young man who calls himself "Lola" who I look forward to attending. Very talented, and always a pleasure to have around. Makes everyone else around him happy too. So you can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't always put people in "categories". Just see people for who they are, and welcome ALL to your gigs, you will be pleasantly surprised on the outcome.

My comments are not specifically directed toward anyone in regard to how they treated a customer. My post was made in the hopes that I could "shortstop" the possibility that the posts get any "uglier" on this forum than the following:
Quote: karaoke koyote Post ...and then God sent me Daisy Duke. Posted: Mon Dec 14, 2009 12:32 am Let me advise you all out there, if you are going to call out to God for such intervention, be more specific, because God has a nasty sense of humor.

And the same rationale as described in the preceding two posts was the basis for how comedians got away for so many years with bashing and making fun out of gays, particularly effeminite men and butch gals!
And since I'm being told that all comments on this thread have been appropriate, here's a recent story of my own. Got this gal(?), coming to my show. I think it's a gal, but they call her Sam. She/he wears Blue Jeans with a wide belt, construction boots, short hair with shaven bald stripes, and a somewhat deep (I think contrived) speaking voice. She/he has a multitude of masculine tattoos and wears a big thick gold chain. ITS boobs, and I think IT has them, are probably tied down because its chest is not flat but isn't shaped like a man's chest under her/his t-shirt! The first time I saw it, it was was walking out of the ladies room. I was taken aghast and had to recheck the signs on the door. What was most grotesque is when it started dancing and kissing its girlfriend. Uggh!
But when she sang (all male songs) it sounded like a nightingale. And I was a respectful to it as to any one of my other singers! Probably more so because of its fabulous voice!

No one here did any bashing of any kind.
Sometimes I think people look so hard to find it that that begin to see it everywhere.
I think you're missing the point of karaoke koyote's post. As Babs said, Quote: This guy sounds like he would be an odd ball even if he didn't want to be a women.
I am NOT prejudiced against any sexual orientation or what have you (BTW cross dressers and trannys aren't necessarily gay).
As I said earlier, I have a Daisy Duke as well, and let me tell you, this guy has serious mental issues.
Not your "normal" tranny or cross dresser at all. It's like a 5 year old did his make up and the guy has ZERO ability in the clothes coordination department.
Spoke to him a few times and I think he has some sort of mental illness. He really believes he makes a stunning woman and that men should be falling over him. His perception of reality is definitely skewed.
It's almost other worldy to see. You really have to look twice, sometimes even 3 times to believe what you see.
Even someone used to seeing all kinds in a day would look twice and raise their eyebrows.
Kind of like a train wreck. You can't tear your eyes away. Sad, really.
PS: I have a very good friend who is currently in the closet and wants to become a woman. He cross dresses secretly at home. I've helped him with his makeup and hair many times and suggested clothing coordinates. Definitely NOT the same issues as my Daisy Duke.

No matter what the situation, these ARE PEOPLE!
Not "its"!
No one here referred to their example as IT except YOU. Maybe it's you that needs to do some inner searching...

Sorry, Diafel, we'll have to agree to disagree.
I made my post solely to make a point! What if I did justify what I said as others justified their comments? Does that make it right!
For one, a male's ability to transform his appearance into a female, as you must realize is based upon many factors:
a) age
b) looks
c) inherent "taste"
d) training/help with cosmetics and clothing
e) money (for clothing, hair removal, surgeries, wigs, prostheses, etc)
f) opportunity (can she put her makeup on at home or must she sneak out to a different town to accomplish the transition and finish dressing)
g) mental outlook and mental health
My opinion is just that - mine. But if as a straight male I taken exception to several comments, I wonder about how many transsexuals reading this thread might react? And what if it is offensive only to half of them?

Whether you're Male or Female or Crossgender -- If you're OLD and dress like your 20 in clothes that don't MATCH ..you're gonna get talked about
THAT'S LIFE ..don't make it right
I personal don't care what people do or what or who they prefer ...But when you STAND OUT ........YOU STAND OUT. Maybe its a CRY for attention or Help or whatever ...... Just sing the dang song and leave all the PC stuff at the door.
