I agree good communication is key to keeping gigs. I just talked to the owner of the bar I'm at and he is adding a few extra nights of karaoke for the next few weeks. People go out more during the holidays and he wants to capitalize on that. He also wanted to make sure I wasn't working any where else. I think he likes keeping me all to himself.

I actually got the unheard of raise last yr because he heard another bar was aggressively pursuing me. I feel pretty secure, but never take it for granted I'll always have a job there.
I think this time of yr is a great time to approach bars that wouldn't normally have karaoke. Bars look to do something special for the holidays. It maybe a way to get a foot in the door.
