I'm looking for a software that can read my hard drive and convert into a PDF or another type of file to create a song book by artist and/or song title. What do you recommend? Thank you for your time :)

There are two softwares that will do this. One has the pdf maker built in while the other will print to PDF using a PDFprinter called PrimoPDF. The advantage with the PrimoPDF printing software is that if you have their ripper, it will use the database, which you can purchase a lifetime upgrades for $30 more than what the program costs ($99). This software is called Fast Tracks Plus. They even have software that works with Fast Tracks to put on another computer so that you don't need books. www.karaokeware.com is their website.

The other is SongBook Generator by Latshaw. This only prints to a printer or convert to pdf or Excel.

What software are you using to play your songs because you can save $20 if you're running Compuhost because you can save your Compuhost database to a csv file and import it into Fast Tracks basic. Fast Tracks basic loses the ability to import straight from the hard drive but you don't really need that if you're running Compuhost.

Good thread. I've used KJ Pro for years, but it's gotten to be a real pain the butt -- it doesn't seem like they update their database anymore. I can NOT recommend it.

I just print the directory to a text file and then edit in excel.

use the dos command dir /b /s,filename.csv

from the directory that contains all your songs (including those in subdirectories).

this will print all the files to the "filename.csv" file.

I find this to be an easy way to correct all of the various spellings of songs. And eliminate duplicates. I find a lot of differing formats for song names, artist names etc.

I spend a lot of time with excel in my day job so it is partially just working with something I know how to use.

Still a big job.

I too use this way, but I have the program JR Directory Printer instead of getting filenames from a dos prompt and it is freeware and Open Office, instead of excel, to actually make the book pages.
