I was wondering if compuhost has some way of selling a backup dongle for less than the full $176 price.

I have no intention of running two shows at the same time or anything like that but one of my biggest fears is loosing that silly little green thing.

I am willing to pay $30-$40 for the peace of mind of having a backup, but since I do have a legal copy that I have purchased it seems a bit pricy to spend another $176 to get a full price copy.

Just going through the gear and thinking what is essential that I do not have a backup.....

Just tie a long lanyard to it and keep it attached to your system or laptop. It would be nice to have a spare, but I understand why they don't make them available at a discount. I carry a player and disks for backup. BTW, have you ever seen any of the illegal operators using Compuhost? I'm happy to spend the money for a good program that no one else around me is using.

That will never happen as the dongle is the "Key to the Castle". We all know what would happen. Why buy a full priced key when you could buy someones "backup dongle" on eBay for half price?

Exactly, Bazza! I like the lanyard idea. I don't worry about losing mine as much as I worry about accidentally smashing it. I tend to just leave it plugged in all the time.

You might consider having a pact with other local KJs who may not have a show on all of your nights....we have three of us in our little town, and we don't do many shows.

I use Tricerasoft Swift Elite 4 which also works with a dongle. Just resolve to be hyper diligent about it. It's the last thing I plug in when setting up, and the first thing I unplug when tearing down. The long lanyard works for me, attached to a key ring that I attach to the inside of my computer case.

My laptop is connected to a USB hub, which is mounted inside my mixer case. The hub connects to my soundcard, external hard drive and compuhost dongle. I have used a cable tie to secure it to he hub, and the hub is hidden out of sight, mounted under wireless mics.

It ain't going anywhere, and nothing can touch it.

I keep mine connected to my pcmia usb hub and I keep a certain routine when hooking up my laptop.

1)power
2)soundcard
3)mouse
4)hub
5)external HD

and do the reverse in putting it away.

Since my "dongle" is my MOST important piece of equipment, I make sure that I know where it is at all times!!!
