Post subject:  Computer Terminal Karaoke Song Selection - no more books!

I am trying to eliminate our karaoke books. I have seen setups with just a keyboard and monitor where singers check to see if their song is available. I have googled this scenerio with no results. It must be a database setup but I have no clue how it is done.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some info on this song selection method.

thanks
Reezer

What software are you playing from?
There are at least three programs that have that ability. One of them puts the song in your que, one sends the request to your laptop but you have to input the song into the hosting program and yet another is just a songlist viewer.

AutoKDJ is a frontend to winamp has a kiosk that will enter the song into the hoster for you.

Karaoke Song Finder (which works with Sax & Dotty's, MTU Hoster and Compuhost) has two programs - one to enter the request from an outside computer and another that receives the info on your hosting computer.

And
Digital Karaoke Search System (the one I use) just allows your singers to look through your list and singer's history.

Thanks Danny. You da man.
I did use Virtual DJ: a good DJ prg but awful karaoke. I am now using Triceratops Just Karaoke and I am surprised how well it does.

I am looking for the latter, what you use. I don't want a prg to enter it in for me. I want two seperate prgs.

Thanks again.

By the way Danny, do you use two computers for that or does your one computer power three displays: One for you, one for the singer, and one for song selection?

I am doing a weekly gig now where I need a third display, the third one being for the crowd on a big screen. My laptop can only power two. So what do I do, buy an external video card device?

You seem well versed in all this. I could learn listening to a guy like you.
Thanks

The one that I use is Karaoke Songbook Pro. It is another of those that the singers can search and submit a song which will pop up on your screen for you to enter them in your hosting program.

I am browsing thru the Karaoke Songbook Pro website, and from what I can tell it is solely for printing the books. Is this the right website http://www.ksbpro.com/ ?

Thanks

I am using two different computers. In mid February Tricerasoft is introducing a remote request tool that will work alongside their programs as well as other programs. With JustKaraoke it will act a lot like songfinder in that you still have to enter the info via drag and drop into the que. The cost is reasonable as well, $25. If I can get it to work alongside Compuhost I will happy as a pig in mud since the latest build has a multiplex function built in.

Okay they released it early and it blows my mind how easy it is to use. Aside from knowing how to set up a network, you really don't have to be a rocket scientist to use it. Oh and they released a new version of JustKaraoke with the server part built into the program. Just install the standalone version onto your kiosk, set up your network and you're good to go. It will work well with a touch screen as the interface requires either a mouse or touchscreen to type out the info you need to send to the host program. With outside programs, you need to run it as stand alone by importing your songs into it's own database. I am willing to bet all you have to do is drag and drop the songs into roxbox, allthough I haven't tried yet.

I looked at the page, but can't see the screen shot very well. I did notice that the program works beginning with XP and up.

The difference is that Songfinder is specifically designed to be run on on "junker" computers and runs just dandy on win '98. The advantage to this is obvious; you don't have to risk losing an expensive computer to a drinking public and you can reload the operating system whenever you want.

My machines were rescued from death since they were slated for the dumpster/crusher and are basically Pentium 166 processors with a tiny 3 gb hard drive. All I added was a touch screen monitor (off Ebay) and a wireless network card.

As a geek, I really like this idea.

But as I look around the room, I see people kicking back with a song book. Often times people will page through a book for half an hour or more, just looking for that song that "jumps out" at them. I honestly wonder if such a kiosk would get used in my bars.

I think you'd be very surprised. We've used them in a number of clubs with varying clientelle' and they have been welcomed everywhere.

People can browse on Songfinder, but to tell you the truth, they usually don't spend more than a couple of minutes doing it. Most people have a pretty good idea of what they want to sing. I don't get any complaints about not having books. Usually it's a "Wow! That is SO COOL!"

It looks very promising. It needs to have some improvements IMHO, which I just sent them as a request.

1. Filter out Duplicates and let the singer choose the version, after selecting the song and
2. Improve the search: Make it possible to search for let's say "Elv Can Hel Fal Lov" and come up as search as you type. Kinda like the CompuHost search.

If they can implement that, I'm sold!

Sevarin,
They have a free tool that comes with swift elite and swift pro that is supposed to work with Justkaraoke but you need their software to use it.

How to use the Search:

To search any item you must type in the keywords and either press or click Search. Keywords can be any partial combination of words, for example, "elv pres" to find Elvis Presly. The search is "in-place" which means the database results end up in the same place. To show All again simply click "Show All". Use the options wisely, the Match All ensures All keywords are found in the selection field you chose to Search On. Match Atleast One will list all results which match atleast one, this means only one of the keywords if found will return back the result item. The "Match All" Search On option will look across all columns and will return only when it finds either All Keywords in that field (for Match All) or Any of the Keywords in Any of the Fields (for Match Atleast One).

One thing I don't like about this tool is, it doesn't show you the brand when selecting a song, just 10 times My Way - Frank Sinatra as example. That doesn't make sense.

The demo movie showed the version being chosen clearly.
Now I'm confused too.
