Ok so I can hook up my laptop to a VIDEO type splitter using the following
S-video out of the Laptop to a S-video to RCA adapter to the the splitter. (2) Rca's able out of the splitter. I RCA to my "TV" monitor and the other to the venues BIG SCREEN TV.

I want to use A PC MONITOR ( VGA out of Laptop) to VGA in of the Monitor..But how do I connect to the venues TV using RCA type connections ?? I assume I still need some type of splitter and converters ?

I have a question..... And right now, it isn't that important, as I probably won't be back at this place until Halloween....


I have a 13 inch CRT TV that I use as my Monitor for Karaoke. I also have an RF Modulator (bought from Radioshack over 10 years ago) that I use along with a Splitter so that I am able to hook my system and use 2 screens as monitors. Simple.....


This place that I do 2 shows a year at (Halloween and New Year's Eve) renovated their place last year. They got all new Flat Screen TVs in the place (to replace all their old CRT screens). They are all hooked up to a Cable or Satellite system (I don't know which). When I was there this past Halloween, and I hooked up my usual way (by removing their coax from the back and hooking my coax (for my splitter) in its place), I was getting a Black and White picture on their screen while my TV was still in color.

My Modulator is set at Channel 3 and Antenna. I tried switching the Antenna switch to Modulator, and rehooked my Coax into the different input, but could not get any signal. So, I just kept it at the settings I know.

Any ideas why I would be getting a Black and Whit picture on a Color screen?

Cue, I had a similar problem when I first went to the laptop format. I couldn't get any color picture at all. Found out that my s-video cord was defective. Replaced it with a different type, one of the clearish ones, and found out that one was a "one-direction" cable. It would only work if plugged in one way, and not turned around. The same thing happened if it wasn't plugged in correctly, a black and white picture. So, I bought another s-video cable from a different store, and that one worked like a charm. Another time, when I used to use coax from my RF modulator to the tv's, the tip of the center wire inside the cable itself broke off so it was slightly too short to contact properly, giving me bad picture quality, usually color would go in and out.

I'm running into the same problem. My laptop is older and doesn't have s-video out. I have been unable to find out what adapter (card) I would need to hook up to s-video or composite (RCA) on my monitor. All I see is video capture and it doesn't look like those cards have video out. Any that do say DVI or HDMI and I don't have that on my monitor.

That's where I have my problem. My laptop doesn't have on-board dual monitor capability. It says I have to use an external graphics card for the second monitor. Most I've seen go from USB to VGA (not s-video or RCA). I wonder if one of these gadgets with just a VGA to S-video cable would work for what I want.

Any help it greatly appreciated. Next obvious step is a new laptop or go with a desktop.

Can't understand why the laptop would have vga out if it couldn't extend to an external monitor...??..have you tried connecting an external monitor then going to screen properties? Once connected you should be offered the chance to "extend your desktop to the 2nd screen.

because the VGA out could be used to connect to an external monitor or projector to display instead of the laptop display. Dual monitor capability allows different displays on 2 different monitors simultaneously, i.e. karaoke display for singers.
