I have been using a set a wired microphones (Carvin M68) at home and interested in recommendations on a good wireless mic. I don't want to break the bank...thinking under $200. If you're willing to go up about $50 from the $200 mark a sennheiser Freeport vocal can be gotten for $249.99 at Musician's Friend with free shipping. I use one and love it. |

I hate to say it Mitch, but good wireless microphone and $200 budget don't go together. As Danny pointed out, the Sennheiser Freeport can be had for about $250, it's not a great mic but not bad either. UHF is definitely the way to go at this point. Most of the VHF stuff is either really cheap or disappearing from the market. A Shure PGX system with an SM58 cartridge goes for around $380 brand new. You might want to have a look at eBay and see if you can find a good deal on a used one. Just be careful that you find out what frequency bandwidth it operates in before you bid (contact the seller if necessary). Try to avoid anything in the 700MHz band as that band has been reassigned to services that could potentially interfere in the future. |

For about $300, the AKG WMS40 Duo is pretty decent, and you get two mics. |

I was able to pick up 2 used Shure PGX24/SM58 mics on e-bay for $215 and $240. They look and sound like new. |

Those Shures off ebay are a great deal. Don't know how you got them for that price, stuff like that gets bid way up whenever I've seen it listed. Nothing I've used compares to Shure wireless except maybe a Sennheiser I used a few times, but I'd rather have the Shure. Shure, Sennheiser and EV-those are the three best and the most expensive too. If it's for your house a $50 Nady DKW Duo will be fine. You'll have to spend quite a bit more to get a better wireless mic. In a small area like in a house, feedback could be a problem if you turn the volume way up. It depends on what speakers you're using, where you position them and how loud you want to go. |

This post absolutely cracks me up stogie. I'm sorry but did you read what you wrote? The OP says he has $200 to spend so you recommend a $50 dual mic setup and then warn him about the dangers of feedback. The Microphone itself is a HUGE factor in how much feedback you'll get. Cheap crap mics have little background rejection and as a result are more prone to feedback. As mics go up in quality, the pickup patterns tighten up and this becomes less and less of an issue. So instead of recommending a kit that's prone to the issue and then warn him about it, how about recommending something higher end but still in his budget where he won't have the same worries? So to the OP, again if you can get an SM58 wireless system in your budget, do it. It'll be easier to use and perform much better. |

1. As has been noted earlier, there are SM58 wireless kits available used that are in that price range. I do believe there were other options mentioned that fit. 2. Even if he bought a less crappy mic brand new for $200, it'd still be better in terms of background rejection and frequency response than a cheaper mic. So I'm back to, why recommend a low-ball system that we know the OP will have problems with rather than find ways to get him something better using the available budget he's stated. |

Here's a nice little Shure system on eBay right now for $175 on Buy It Now. It's a PG58 which isn't quite as nice as an SM58 but definitely blows away anything else in this price range (I use the PG-58's for all my singers mics). http://cgi.ebay.com/SHURE-UHF-PG24-PG58 ... 639wt_1165 |

I have several of these in use at some of my shows.. They're great, inexpensive, tough microphones. Shure makes the best karaoke hardware, in my opinion. In addition, musiciansfriend.com is a GOLD MINE for equipment. Same stuff they sell at Guitar Center, without having to put up with Guitar Center employees, for half the price. |

I've been using the same 3 SM58's since 94, 7 nights & still going strong! Actually do need to replace 2 of them due to the barrel where the XLR clips in is so worn it doesn't hold the plug in place anymore. Shure will replace both with new models for $48 each. Alot nicer than purchasing 2 new ones at $100 per. |

$100 per is still a great deal for 58's. They'll last you ten years+ easily. Sub $200 for new Shure wireless mics... When I bought mine they were $180 each, I'm halfway tempted to buy a couple more. Their customer service department is also excellent. I had problems with my Sennheiser gear a few years back and it was actually a pain to deal with some of their reps. I've been using Shure gear ever since and I stand by it. |

I took the excellent advice and bought a Shure SM58. Unbelivable sound quality at an great price. I deal with the cord. Many thanks for the wonderful input. I really do appreciate everyone's guidance. All the best...Mitch |
