I’ve been reading Karaoke scene post for awhile and can see everyone on here takes there karaoke seriously. I’ve read some great advice that helped me out as a novice. But now I think it’s time to ask the experts for some advice. Background I’m starting a show for the first time on a Military Base in Germany. I’ve gathered the entry level equipment and library, found a venue that pays, but I have no name. I don’t want to be “That Karaoke guy” forever. Is a name important? I’ve poled a few possible names for your opinions on what is eye catching, has staying power and is just fun. Feel free to make a suggestion but if your suggestion required a @ $ # ! % to post, it probably won’t be my choice. |

Welcome, Junkman! For the type of venue you describe, I don't know if your company name will be that important. It's more like the guys on the base will say, "They have karaoke in the club on base tonight, wanna go?" rather than you trying to make a "name" for yourself by appearing at several civilian clubs. I voted for "GI Joe" for a company name because it fits the venue and clientele. Personally I think it's better for YOU to adopt a name rather than one for the company. Who knows? If you called yourself "Party Singman" that might be a great hook! You are more likely to be known for yourself rather than a company. Good luck! |

I'm thinking Mattell would have a problem with "GI Joe". |

I actually like "That Karaoke Guy". It gets to the point of what you do and it's simple enough that no one can forget it. |

Name your business what you do and keep it simple. Then when people hear it, they know exactly what you do and what to expect. If you were looking for a plumber to do some work in your house, who would you call first. "Star Plumbing" or "Catch A Rising Star Fixtures & Waterworks"? "GI Joe Karaoke" is great...or even "Karaoke Joe". |

I took a lot of time mulling over the best karaoke name for my business only to find out no matter how much I plastered it every where, people will refer to your business by your name or your karaoke name. The name of my business is "Monkey Business Karaoke", but everyone says karaoke with Babs because that's my karaoke name. I'd be more worried about what people call you. For example: If people refer to you by your karaoke name, say it's "GI Joe", they'll refer to your business as Karaoke with GI Joe, GI Joe's Karaoke or The GI Joe Show. How about using your real name if your worried about copy right with Mattell. For instance "GI Bob". I think people remember your name not your business name more because they hear it and use it more. If I did it over again I'd simply go with, Karaoke with Babs. Good luck and let us know what you decide. |
