I’m looking to upgrade my mains and I’m wondering if the Yamaha S115V 2-Way 15" Club Series V Speakers are a good match for a Behringer EP 2500 Amp?

That amp will push those speakers well.

Very good sounding speakers but beware, they are very heavy. If you have no problems lifting 62 pounds up onto a speaker stand or have someone to help you, then they are a lot of speaker for the money. I've gone to all plastic molded speakers weighing no more than 35 pounds because I'm never in the same place, show after show. I go back to the same places, but maybe only once a month. To me there is a HUGE difference between a 62 pound speaker and a 35 pound speaker.

I have these speaker and push them with the matching Yamaha P5000 Amp. I am ecstatically happy. They ARE heavy as previously mentioned, but manageable. I certainly wouldn't want anything heavier, that's for sure. You wont be disappointed.

Unfortunately one of the costs of better quality speakers is increased weight. Wood cabinets outperform the composite shells in every experience I've ever had. But yes throwing 60+ pounds up onto a speaker stand is a bear. You could make it a little easier with crank up stands but you still have to get the speakers up over 3 feet onto those. If you have someone to help you put them on the stands, it should be no trouble at all. If you're on your own, just be sure to practice proper lifting technique.

Wow, Thanks guys!

I was able to borrow a pair of Yamaha S215V Dual 15" Club Series V Speakers. Those are more speaker than I need but I was so impressed with sound of the tweeters, I knew I needed to upgrade.

The speakers I’m using now are 52 lbs and my sub is 77 lbs. So convenience is not the issue. I want to have the best sound I can afford. And I’m never by myself.

Question guy's, did he say for top speakers Why a 15" and not recommend a 10" or 12" if he has a sub??? He'll get better vocals and it will be much lighter

Actually, jayvan, the Behringer speakers only weigh a couple of pounds less than the Yamaha S115V speakers. I also use the Behringer ones, and haven't had any problems since I got them about 3 years ago. However, I know the Yamaha's are a much better speaker, quality and sound. You won't go wrong with them. But keep the Behringer ones around for extra reinforcement when you need them.

Well for one he asked if that model would be a good match to the amp - which it would. 2nd, he said he had listened to the dual 15" model and liked it quite a bit but didn't want the large dual model. If crossed over properly with the sub, he can still yield a nice vocal out af a 15" & is more versatile for those shows not requiring the sub but still can get a good bass response.

I am a little surprised that the HF section was a selling point for him since I think those boxes are bright and a little harsh. I do not know what his existing Behringers sound like, though, maybe it is a really good upgrade.

The JBL MRX512m is about to me my go-to top box for smaller gigs where I want to be able to set everything up quickly without help. I think it sounds better than the Yamaha club stuff. It is also lighter, which should help when lifting them onto poles.

I also moved to the Yamaha S112V for my sub setup. I cross them at 90Hz and it sounds great.

I know I'll get flamed..... I owned a pair of the Yamaha Sv115 IV and they are GREAT GREAT speakers. But a couple years ago I sold them and since picked up a pair of the Behringer B1520 Pro's. They are a GOOD GOOD speaker ( Not as Good as the Yamahas) but when I purhchased them NEW they were $100 EACH less than The Yamahas .... My point is I don't know if the YAMAHAS are THAT MUCH BETTER??? I would go for some top of the line 12" Liteweights supported by a Good SUB.

Well if weight is part of the consideration (I know it was brought up but not by the OP), then active speakers would be the worst possible solution. Now not only are you lifting the heavy cabinet filled with heavy speakers, you're also hoisting up the heavy amplifier.

If weight is not an issue, active speakers can be a great way to eliminate any concerns about matching an amp to speakers.

I guess we haven't had this discussion for a while -- there is some pent up demand.

Active is nice, but only having to run one wire is nice too. Each in it's own place.

If I am bringing in a rack on wheels, an amp fits in it real nicely and then I don't have to site power for the speakers. And if I am doing widely varying venues, it is nice to be able to mix and match amps and speakers.

For some types of gigs, a pair of active speakers with a four-space lightweight rack works well.
