I just bought Chartbuster's CB90132, a Charlie Daniels disc. In the jewel case was a "Note from Chartbuster" that pretty much said that this disc may not work on older players "due to format variations". I tried it in my 5 year old home pop top player, and sure enough, it didn't work. However, when I tried it in my pro players (which happen to read MP3 discs) there was no problem. Has Chartbuster switched to the MP3 disc format, or was this just an anomaly? |

I will be awaiting that answer nervously. And I am getting really tired of being jerked around by all this. |

it should be easy enough to tell. Put the disk into your computer cd rom drive and check the disk properties. That should tell you if they're cd music files or mp3s. |

You can tell if the dics is in mp3. Play it in pc drive and look for the file size. A normal wav file for a 4 min song is about 40MB. but an mp3 would be around 10MB depending on the bitrate used. There are many other ways to see if the files are indeed mp3 There is no advantage in using mp3 over normal .wav |

There is at least one site, masterbeat.com, that offers music downloads in WAV format for an extra fee. Customers buying them are generally using them for re-mixes. There is certainly a quality difference between a CD track or WAV file and an MP3, but if the MP3 conversion is done correctly, most people will never be able to tell the difference between a 128Kb/sec+ MP3 and a CD. Especially through a typical bar PA system, which involves many compromises in quality to get loud and cover a large area. A 44kHz 16-bit stereo WAV file, which is the same as a CD track, is actually about 10MBytes per minute. That's why a 68 minute CD-R disc also holds about 680MB of data. |

Too easy....... But don't email them. It's been a month and I'm still waiting for an answer as to how I can change the user name on their Customs. I wanted to give one as a gift. |

Some of the Chartbuster discs are CDR's rather than pressed, and after a number of complaints of problems they started including that note with the discs that are CDR's. A lot of the machines that had problems with home burned discs had problems with them. A lot of JVC machines just hated them, even brand new just out of the jewel case. I think it was supposed to be a cost cutting measure that backfired. I know I complained bitterly when they first started it with their disc of the month. The first time I saw one I thought I had been sold a pirated disc and called Chartbuster about it. The new Country discs seem to have gone back to being pressed and have a statement on the front that they are guaranteed to play in all CD+G players. What's interesting is that my July Pop disc is pressed and has the guarantee, but the November Pop disc is a CDR and does not have the guarantee on the front (hope they aren't going back to CDR's). Anyhow, what you've got is probably one of the CDR's. |
