I'll be looking to upgrade my speakers soon. I wasn't very happy at the last gig with my current set up - (2) Behringer B215A's with (1) Carvin LS1801NA sub.

We host karaoke 90% of the time, however, have been doing more DJ work recently, so this new system would need to accomdate both.

I want to remain with active speakers. I am really interested in Yorkville, especially after hearing Ripman and others' reviews, but will consider others.

So hear are my questions:

The NX55P, EF500P, and NX750P.....all three are nearly the same price, yet very different speakers. WHY?? ....I'm confused. Why wouldn't I just but the 750?? It has the most power??...am I missing something??

Then the subs. First of all, are the LS800P and the LS801P the same box??

And then, the UCS1P vs. the LS800P?? What's the difference?? Again, similar in price, yet totally different boxes.

Obviously, I need some help in sorting this all out!!!!

We use NX 520s (early version of the NX55) and LS700 bins. Note if you get the 55s (or anyone out there with similar size speakers), find the right size Rubbermaid tubs to put them in to protect them while travelling. See them in my photo gallery.

If you're going to use subs, then you don't need 15s. In most venues the 12s with subs will be more than adequate. Then there is the weight issue, the 500s at 83 lbs and the 750s at 60 lbs vs the 55s at 42 lbs.

I really had nothing but problems with my Yorkville purchases.

I had NX55P speakers they always were going into limit and were never loud enough.

I have 2 LS720P that are broke and no longer work.


I would suggest you look into QSC. With a 6 year warrenty they are a much better option.

I don't know if I'm a "Yorkville Expert", but I have been using them for a while now. I switched from JBL SP, SR and SRX series speakers to Yorkville Elite and Unity series speakers a few years ago and have been very pleased with both the quality and reliability.
The LS801P is just the new model number for the LS800P, all the specifications appear to be the same. Both the 800 and 801 are front loaded 18's in a rear loaded bass horn design cabinet. This type of cabinet will give you more punch directly in front of the cabinet while the rear loaded bass horn will extend the throw somewhat but not as well as the design of the UCS1P which is a rear loaded 15 with a rear loaded horn. In a nut shell, the LS800P/LS801P will give you more punch in a closer proximity to the cabinet where the UCS1P will shine and actually develop more punch as the distance increases from the cabinet. One is in essence a short throw cabinet and the other is a long throw cabinet. I personally use two LS800P's and find they can cover a very large room well and still shake the dust out of the rafters. As far as the upper cabinets go I opted for the U15P's as the difference in power, versatility and clarity was just to much to ignore over the models you mentioned. The U15P is actually a three way cabinet with a single 15, three 5's and a compression driver with 900 watts of power total dispersed at 600 watts, 150 watts 150 watts respectfully. The U15p's can be used without a sub in smaller rooms easily. The bad news is they weigh in at 92 pounds each.
Only you know what your intended use is going to be, in small to medium size rooms the NX55p 12x1 550 watts, molded cabinet should do a fine job, if you think your going to be getting into larger venues or doing outdoor work you need to take that into consideration. The E500P is part of the Elite series, which is a step up from the NX series and uses a wooden cabinet pushing 800 watts total with 650 watts to the 15 and 150 watts to the 2" diaphragm compression driver, the NX750p is also a molded cabinet using 650 watts to a 15 and another 100 watts to a 1.5" diaphragm compression driver. Reliability has never been an issue with any of my Yorkville purchases but as with any manufacturer, if you try to get more out of a product than it was designed to deliver you may run into some issues.

I was beginning to get information overload from all the research I was doing.

My need to upgrade is was you probably expected....at my last gig, the coverage needed was simply to large for my system.

And the event prior to that, was an outdoor gig. It sounded ok., however, I could never get it to sound great!!! The client and guests weren't disappointed, but I was.

I hadn't considered the U15's, but I will look into them. The weight doesn't concern me. I'll gladly trade any weight issues for quality.

As a much less expensive alternative to the Yorkville speakers you might want to consider the Carvin LM15A. Active 15" cabinets for $399 each that weigh in at 39 pounds each. I don't have a sub recommendation right now, but from what I've read the Yorkville LS720P is one of the ones that I keep reading about that is good bang for the buck and good performance for a reasonably sized sub.

I took London Lives advice and purchased the nx55P's
For me weight and size had to come into play as I had injured myself 2 years ago and was still trying to cart 15 inch speakers weighing over 60lb.
the lighter smaller speakers didnt compromise on sound or power...in fact a guy who was the main act at 2 gigs I played at pre xmas, (he was using the same speakers I used to use plus 2x 15 inch subs) at the sound check said my two 12 in speakers with no subs made his rig sound like a transistor radio.

hehehe...if you ONLY knew. My grandchildren don't think I'm old as dirt YET, however......it's only a matter of time!!!

Sorry I just saw this Blade. I've yet to see any dj or kj in these parts with a better sounding system then mine. I've gotten compliments from hosts, djs and bands alike. I know at least one dj that bought the carvin after listening to mine. He still runs with the jbl eons though.

Thanks. Things are going good. Haven't made the purchase yet, as we have been working six and seven days a week, ten hours a day. Today is our first day off in eighteen days!!!

With that said, it looks like we'll be getiing laid off after this project is completed, and am seriously considering going "full time".

Interesting times, these are...who knows what the future may hold.
