Hi Guys,

I have a Mackie Pro FX board and a dbx 266XL. I need some help hooking this dbx unit up.

I’ll be using 4 mics; 2 AKG’s on ch. 1 and 2 (XLR), and 2 drunk mics on ch 3 and 4 (1/4 inch).

I’d like to have the option of using the compressor on all 4 mics.

How do I hook this up so I have access to the dbx for all four mics.

Again, I’m very green at this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well that is only a 2 channel compressor so you'll only be able to effectively use it with 2 mics only. Connect the 2 mics via the insert jack on the mics you will be compressing. You will need 2 insert cables like

Connect the single end to the mixer insert jack, the TIP end goes to the compressor input, the RING end goes to the compressor output.

It definitely is a learning process however a good starting point would be
Turn off the gate (both knobs full to the right).
Threshold to -10-0 db.
Ratio set approx between 2:1-4:1 - depending on singer
The button between Attack & Release engaged (lit up)
Output set between 0 - -10 depending o the output level between normal & processed.

Hi Enzoab,
I have recently implemented 2 266XL's into my rack for my four microphones. I don't claim to be an expert, I am certainly still leaning, but I have those bad boys sounding pretty nice, pretty much with the sttings that Lonman stated. My stress level has decreased, and my friendlyness level has increased with these bad boys.

On customer asked me, "Don't all those knobs stress you out?". I replied that all those knobs have reduced my stress tremendously.

Where are you in So. Cal? I do three gigs a week on the Los Angeles Area. I am in Los Feliz Village on Tuesday nights (East Hollywood), El Monte on Thursday nights, and Covina on Saturday nights.

Are you giging anywhere in the area? I go to shows all over So. Cal on my off nights.

Hi Felix,

I'm down Temecula way. I might be able to come out Covina, long drive to get anywhere from here.

I got the rig up and running today. Lot of custom mounting involved; the mixer, the double wireless system, a monitor for me, etc. The whole deal fits into, on top of and around a very small carpet box (dbx, cd-dvd player, mixer, wireless, video switcher, 3 hard drives if needed = video, KJ and DJ files, power, etc.) The amp has its own 2u box which sits under the 2 x 4 table on my tool box. Made a cool light weight laptop stand. I installed mounts on top of each PR15 so I can slap a couple of "full room coverage" lights on real easy if needed.

I'm used to old school mixers and stuff so I'm hitting up this site and youtube for instruction of basic mixing techniques. I'll get it. In the end, do what you know; leave out what you don't until you do.

I'll friend your name up here Felix and I'll contact you soon regarding a road trip to check you out. I need eyes and ears on as much as I can.
