So I was just contacted by my high school choir teacher who asked if there is any way we can tie a fundraiser into my karaoke show in my hometown. Any suggestions?

Up to you if you want to offer your services. I've done countless services that were free on my half that were fund raisers. Had several paid gigs from it, it's all in what you are willing to give first!

I've done a number of fund raisers, some paid some not. I pretty much do it just for the satisfaction of helping folks out. If you don't enjoy that type of work, it may not be for you.

Fundraiser for the HS choir ? - maybe a contest ? get some sponsors - sell some t shirts - cookies - charge a per song fee ?

^^ Kind of what I was thinking. Maybe a contest with a $10 entry fee or something along those lines. Get some sponsors too.

I've been doing a couple per month. Politics mostly. Been fun. Mostly music. Also found that when I hit up the http://www.meetup.com site and offer to do a free gig to the singles groups up there, I get paying gigs from that endeavor as well. Nice.

Hi Mark,

I'd like to hear more about how you're handling those free gigs. How many do you do for the groups? How long do you play for them?

Again it's all in what you want to offer, i've done free 4 hour shows before, up until 8 hour shows - all tipped, however I donated all tips to the cause, but like said, got many 'paid' gigs from the free shows because of the exposure. So it's all in what YOU are willing to give up as far as time & labor.
