I want to make my karaoke digital. How do I go about doing this? I have approximately 4500 songs on disc and I want to use them on my laptop and do away with the cd+g player.

first get either PowerKaraoke's CDG burner or CDGRip. Both work with most drives out there. I would chose CDGrip if you're worried about naming because I know that CDGrip willl name using most of the common naming conventions.

As to programs to play I would check out all of the Demos that are out there and decide for yourself what features match your needs.
Siglos /Power karaoke - www.powerkaroke.com
Compuhost/ CDGRip - www.karaokeware.com
MTU Hoster - www.mtu.com
justKaraoke / Swift ELite - www.tricerasoft.com
Karma - www.latshawsystems.com

are just a few of the standalone players.

Here's a good FREE cdg extractor:

And a good FREE player

Micky hate to disagree with you but audiograbber is great for mp3 extractions but for karaoke it leaves artifacts (little dots) in hard to rip discs and it does not zip the files. Naming can be questionable too depending on how t comes off of freedb.

and 4500 files would be hard to find using karafun.
My suggestions include players/ rippers that will make finding the songs a lot easier. If money is an object then I would suggest JustKaraoke just for the price alone $25.00.

The rest run $99 and above.

Audiograbber only leaves artifacts if you're not using an official cdg drive, if you slow down the speed it's perfect, well with my LiteOn Sata drive  But I agree with you on the naming...

Karafun is really just for home, it's built on the Bass engine so it offers a great sound but it does take forever to load the songs from the folder, so 4500 tracks might take a while :!:

If you get the combination of CDGRip (Free) to rip your tracks, FastTracks Plus ($99.95) to make karaoke books, and CompuHost ($179.99) for your hosting program, then everything is integrated.

When you RIP with CDGRip, it will interface with FastTracks Plus to autoname the files. Without this feature, you have to name each file individually yourself in the correct format of your hosting software.

FastTracks Plus will then automatically create karaoke books based on the tracks you have burned, since they are in the proper format.

CompuHost can then automatically use all of the files, since they are in the proper format.

I use this combo, and it is well worth the upfront cost for all the conveniences it has, and they keep developing new versions with more and more conveniences. $280.00 for a great suite of integrated programs!

I agree with TopherM. This is a nice suite of products. I also find it is worth it to get the lifetime updates for FastTracks.
