Wedding number 2 is coming up and I've been asked for a few songs for the DJ set. Cotton –eyed Joe (I see many versions out there, which is considered better? - I've been told not Rednex (by Red Necks!!)) Shasta / Shatis? (no idea on this one anyone? anyone?) Thanks for all that you do! Jonn |

The definitive version of the Cotton Eyed Joe and Schottische was recorded by Isaac Peyton Sweat in the early 80's. It was the version used in the movie "Urban Cowboy". You can hear it on the (now deceased) artist's My Space page. I see that Amazon has the CD here. I bought it years ago on a 12" single which had Schottische immediately following Cotton Eyed Joe for one long ~8:00 song. Good luck! |

The Casper Slide by DJ Casper........Saturday Night by Whigfield.....The Time Warp by The Rocky Horror Show cast.....The Macarena by Los Bravos.........These tracks pack the dance floors at my Non karaoke gigs, and they all have a little "Routine" to go with them......Tho it could just be a UK thing.... |

Or is this just a British curio? |

Another good one is the "Electric Slide" by Marcia Griffiths. |

Cotton Eyed Joe by Rednex is more for kids and is much more higher energy than the original. Cupid Shuffle is THEE most popular dj-wise nowadays And Casper Cha-Cha-Slide and Bootie Call and Electric Slide (boogie). There are also line dance versions of Soulja Boy Stayin Alive Boot Scootin Boogie Macarena Love Shack Night Fever Blame It On The Boogie Strokin ...and of course countless COUNTRY 2, 4, and 6 steps. |

Could you say some more about the context in which you heard "Shasta" or whatever mentioned? That doesn't really ring any clear bells for me. The "Schottische" is performed in America as a country dance and it does happen that there is a song called "Sweat Schottische" by Isaac Payton Sweat. http://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Eyed-Isaac-Payton-Sweat/dp/B000005X5V I don't see anything on the Billboard charts right at the moment that sounds close to that. |

It's not a line dance, but another easy wedding dance floor packer is still the 80's song "Gonna Make You Sweat" aka "Everybody Dance Now". People hear the opening line, and still jump up. Also +1 for the Electric Slide which is ACTUALLY titled "Electric Boogie" by Marcia Griffiths. If you go buy the song called "The Electric Slide" you will instead get a crappy rap song, not the one you want. Those guys made a ton by taking the song title. |

My apologies for replicating the information you'd already given Dan - I missed that part of your post. |

I guess I needed it spelled out in triplicate for my brain to process! Ever had one of those days when you think your brain is working but it's actually on vacation! - Jonn |
