When I plug my own system into the mains at this club I host at, the music comes out fine, but whenever anyone sings, the vocals seem to create a dampening effect on the music, and everything sounds muddy. They have a HUGE sound board, which they use to mix live music. I plug into the channel that the house DJs use. I use a Mackie DX12 to hook up all my sound into the mains. Any ideas about what is causing this dampening effect? I'll have the make and model of the board when I have my next gig. Thanks! |

Are the vocals going thru your DFX12 or the "other board" ? |

Mics are plugged into the Mackie, then I plug the house cables into mackie's outs. |

It sounds like there is a compressor/limiter inserted on the DJ inputs, which is quite common, especially if the club has DJs who are not supervised by sound technicians, and who might otherwise blow up the PA system. Talk to the person who is responsible for the sound system about patching in to different channels. They are unlikely to adjust or remove the compressors on the cables they have run to the booth area, because the abusive DJ will be back the next night blowing up the PA. |

That sounds like it might be the exact issue. I'll talk to whoever I can. Thanks for the suggestion! |

This happens at our local casino. They have a really nice JBL line array that the inputs for the DJ have some serious compression on them. It always sounds like crap. |
