Who here has bouncers to help out when dealing with unruly singers? Just out of curiosity I wanted to know if most of us have back up or not.

I've had bouncers in the past, but now I rely on the owner to step in if there is a problem. I can't remember the last time I had to do this. Partially because I have a better crowd and partially because I've learned what to say in different situations to diffuse the situation before it gets out of hand.

We use off duty police to work the door at all my locations I never have a problem.

I have a bouncer at my bar, but I'm 6'6", 220 lbs, so I take care of most issues myself :)

Heck i'm so scary, I frighten even the bouncers!! lol Nope, no back up for my shows, not a need. Owners have a good handle on who and what goes on in their bars.

We have no bouncers at either of my shows. At my one show, when we know it's going to extra busy, or when the crowd is consistently large, they bring in someone, but generally there is no one. We had issues one night during a festival week, but there were active bouncers on hand, to help throw the morons off stage (there were several - kept jumping the stage). Then they earned themselves a free ride in a police car. LOL
They will have security again at this year's festival week. It's definitely a must.
At my other venue, I will be speaking with the owner soon if he doesn't get things under control. There are no doormen, though they're sorely needed, just to keep drinks from walking out the door, if nothing else. The "bartenders" are to be laughed at if you think they have any kind of authority and the owner himself refuses to eject anyone even when they are on the verge of causing destruction.

We have security/doorman on Fri & Sat. The rest of the week no, but there is always someone that can be called in a pinch.

No security at my location but enough redneck regulars to help us out in a pinch. We haven't had a fight inside for years but we get an occasional tussle on the patio.

With 100-150 drunk college kids and a rotation of 25+ at one of my venues? You betcha!

We have 2 bouncers; one at the door and one on the other side of the bar watching the crowd.

I occasionally have to summon them when someone belligerent who's alcohol intake has made them lose all sense of time thinks they've been "waiting for hours" to sing the song they handed me 30 minutes ago.

Hell, last night someone threw their drink at the stage which splattered all over me. He's not only 86ed, but he bouncers had "fun" with him while he was leaving!

We try to identify people who are too drunk/stupid to behave themselves before a real problem happens, like a thrown drink or fist. Last night this was the case, as a guy was way too drunk to act like a normal person. He was irritating everyone. I finally saw him hassle one too many people and asked the bartender to cut him off so he would leave, only to have her tell me that she had just taken away his beer. She was way ahead of me! We gave him a few more minutes to leave on his own, but he did not, so then we asked his friend to take him home. Problem solved, no hurt feelings, and certainly no broken glasses or violence.

For the first time last night, I actually had to stop the music and get on the mic to stop an unruly drunk. He was doing the usual "drunk guy mic stand schtick" and right on the verge of being dangerous. I was watching him like a hawk. THEN he picked up my monitor & stand, like he was going to swing it around too. I cut the music and said "STOP. JUST STOP." Of course, every head turns, and his buddies were all "Dude, mellow out" to him. It worked, nothing was damaged but it pissed me off for quite a while. About 10 minutes later the manager kicked them out as they continued being complete douchebags to the rest of the patrons. They were acting like drunk fratboys with their first keg and they were all easily mid-late 30's.

Those of us who host Wednesday night shows, of course have Cinco de Mayo coming this week -- bartender at my Wed gig says it's "amateur night" and they always have extra staff on hand for the amateur drinkers who can't control themselves.

Karen I was just wondering today what night Cinco De Mayo was on. I'm not sure how it will impact my bar. Usually though any reason to party brings people out.
