What is the practical definition of Balanced and Unbalanced and how it relates to t-s and t-s-r. In performance mode/operation, regarding the connection of CD/Tape (laptop or I-pod in) it seems if it were to be connected to the "CD/Tape In" R & L RCA, the input would be in stereo but with no volume control (other than the main board fadder) or EQ control other than on the laptop/I-pod. Would it be better off going into one of the stereo channels, (5/6, 7/8, 9/10 or 11/12)? Would there be any disadvantage to using the stereo channels for the music. Does the FX button on the stereo channel cancel out all FX? If I only use one speaker cabinet, do I need one cable w/ two 1/4" t-s on one end connected to an xlr on the other end with pins 1-2-3 active? Or, can it be 2ea 1/4" t-s on one end to a 1/4" t-r-s on the other. Will either of these type cables give me the same end results when connected to only one Eon cabinet which appears to allow for input by either XLR or 1/4". Thanks!!! Joey |

Balanced connections are usually XLR or TRS (a 1/4" plug that resembles the tip of a headphone plug - two bands on the plug). Unbalanced connections are like an RCA plug or a TS 1/4" plug that looks like that of something that plugs into a guitar - 1 band on the plug. Balanced connections can run for longer distances without noise interference, unbalanced you typically want to keep as short as possible. The tape input on that board does not have any volume or eq control other than the main fader once the tape input switch is engaged. If you have an open stereo channel, use that, this will give individual volume & eq for the music source. No disadvantage at all, unless you need those channels for something else. Not sure about the efx, can't open the manual at this time. If you are only using one speaker, just use one main output & pan everything to that side, however if you do that, anything in the stereo input will only get half the signal & you'd probably want to use two separate channels for the left & right and then pan both to the output being used. You generally do not want to use a cable to combine both outputs into one as it can damage the output circuit of the mixer. |

I have the same mixer. When connected to cd you need to have pressed in the send to mix button and shut off the send cd to control. I connect my laptop to 9/10 using rca connectors with adaptors to make them plug into 1/4 jacks. Works well. |
