I just wonder how singers generally handle the spectators in their mind when they sing.

Do you try to put the spectators out of their mind and concentrate on the song, do you try to sing the song dirrectly at the spectators as a whole, or do you try to sing to an individual spectator.

I know that for most people it is going to be a mix, and there is no right answer, but I just want to know what people think their ideal is when they sing best.

Personally when I sing to a crowd, I am usually singing specifically at one person at a time. It may or may not be someone I know, and the focus may change to another person as the song progresses. Usually I don't do anything to let on to anyone else in the crowd who my individual target audience is.

This is horrible. I just realized I ignore the crowd. :o I stare at the screen and sing 80% of the time. Unless it is a song that is interactive with the crowd I'm focused on the monitor.

Now if I am singing with someone it's bit different. I try to have fun with them and the crowd.

Most of the time I concentrate on the song. If I see that some guy is drooling all over himself, I will think, "That guy is drooling all over himself" and I might lose my concentration and flub the song.

I usually pretend to sing to the crowd, but really I am doing the "stare over the top of their heads" thing I was taught to do in public speaking.

Occasionally I will sing to my wife, which can be a mistake. She will sometimes make me laugh and last time that happened I lost it.....

Connect, connect, connect. Maybe a quick glance to make sure I'm on the correct verse, but face to face with the crowd. Sing to every person in the room. Comes from years of musical theater I guess, but it just doesn't seem right to ignore the crowd. (I know when I watch a singer who blocks out the crowd, I lose interest in watching very quickly.)

Well they get me to sing my one song every two or three weeks. It is because at the end they do Jerry Jerry Jerry like off the springer show.
I concentrate on the screen but do look out to the crowd.
I becon them to join in and they do.
When I look at them their faces merge like in a dallai.
I see no ones face. Just mutations.
That is really because I don't have confidence.
Since packing in smoking I managed to complete the
song without the asthma inhaler.
I think the applause was for stopping smoking.

Really I am a backstage person doing sound & lighting.
I keep telling them I am not a DJ or KJ, I am the sound, lighting guy.
I don't know who is in the charts.

I feel just get through this song and let the stars take over.

I do all - song dependant. Sometimes singing to my wife, sometimes to a small group, sometimes to the entire crowd and sometimes I ignore everyone.
Did not vote 'cause I would have to select all of the above, which was not an option.

Now why are the guys drooling, it should be the girls. LOL

Does he look like a cheese burger and fries? Now that I would understand.

I actually get it - When I'm singing and someone is doing something distracting it catches my eye. I may even put their name in the song.

Just a hypothetical example of what one might see although I never have. Niether have I seen any guys drooling when I sing, thanks LL. Although I have seen other singers drool when they sing.
