The title says it all pretty much. But to elaborate a little. I want to build/buy speakon cables. They would be about a hundred feet long each (4 or them), and a couple of 50's too. Would any of you knowledgeable people on here know would it be better to build them using spools of cable and put ends on them, or..just buy the cables pre-done. Where is the best place to shop for good cables? Would electrical wiring be sufficient for that kind of lenghts? Gauge needed for that length? yes, (daisy chaining will be done.) Place to get connection ends? So many questions for such a simple thing, huh? hehe... Thanks ya'll in advance. Scott |

Speakon connectors are super simple to put on, you only need a small screwdriver. Since you need so much wire, you will be able to buy in bulk and save over buying pre-made cables. For such long runs, be sure to use 12 gauge or larger. Also make sure you get original Neutrik Speakon connectors instead of the cheaper knock offs. Slightly more expensive, but much higher quality IMO. I also got the 45 degree kits for the speaker ends and love em. |

If you are looking for some good selection of wire in spools, here is where I usually buy things from, including the speakon connectors. http://www.markertek.com/ They have a good selection and good services when I dealt with them in the past. Just though I'd pass it along, just in case. |

If there is an electrical supplier near you, like the ones small construction companies buy their supplies from, then that will be the cheapest way to buy cable, usually in spools of 250ft or larger. www.awcwire.com is a good online company but shipping electrical cable by UPS/FedEx is expensive. I assume you want your cables to be safe for indoor and outdoor use. I suggest SJOW type cable, which is flexible, "junior hard service" grade cable, resistant to oil, water, and sunlight. As far as daisy-chaining speakers over this huge distance, don't do that. Build a patch panel or a few simple "speakon splitter boxes." If you run 2 ohms worth of speakers on a 200 foot total length of cable you will lose an appreciable amount of power even with a 10 gauge, and it's hard to fit any larger gauge, durable cable into an NL4 connector. www.audiopile.net is a good place to buy speakon connectors and other misc items from. They also sell bulk speaker cable, but I don't think it has a rated insulation and might not pass an electrical inspection. |
