I'm an avid Karaoke fan. A few years ago I purchased a nice CAVS Karaoke player, which I liked much better than anything I had before because you can get 1200+ songs per disc and the quality of the background music/vocals was still really good. But I am getting kind of sick of having to change discs every time someone picks a new song. So I'm kind of looking to upgrade to a newer, more state-of-the art karaoke system. I'd also like to be able to have just ONE song list, as opposed to the two dozen different song lists I have now, for all the different S-CDG and CDG discs I own. So I was thinking to myself; in this day and age, there must be some really nice MP3 or MP4 players out there that are all digital. So I could just buy karaoke songs or CDs, like I do with MP3s for my iPod. Right? I am sure they make such a machine for Karaoke, don't they? And then there should be an easy way to update my master play list every time I add more songs to my unit, right? Like just add them into a MS Excel file or something and then automatically sort the songs by name or title or something? Can anyone suggest such a unit and where I might buy it? I'd love to just go all digital like this. Money isn't really an issue, unless we're talking $8,000. I might balk at that. But I can afford something nice, I think. I just don't know where to start looking. |

Sounds to me like you want to go computer based. There's a program called CDGFIX that will transfer your SCDG to MP3+G format. I would suggest getting a laptop, that program (CDGFIX), a good karaoke hosting program, a mixer, and powered (active) speakers. Then of course you've STILL got to get mics, stands, cords, and ALL the other things involved. I'd suggest looking at ALL of these things, THEN decide if it's something you REALLY want to do. If so, then GO FOR IT!!! Good luck. Rosario Serenity Now Karaoke |

I don't know if you live in a big city, but on my city's Craigslist, I can find a good, complete PA system for around $500-750. It will then cost you about $200-250 for a good laptop (unless you might already have one?), and $180 for CompuHost. So, you are looking at about $900-1200 to get started with a good, basic home PA and digital karaoke system. |

www.roxbox.net has a converter that has been known to work well. |

I've already got a really nice amp / nice Klipsch speaker system, several nice corded and cordless mics and several nice laptops in the house. I think my amp even has a microphone inlet. So I don't know that I'd need anything more than one of these programs and then I could just hook up my laptop to the amp or TV via HDMI. I've got a nice 30' HDMI cord. So maybe I'm already set up except for the program, huh? What about a nice way to download the song lists into an MS Excel file? |

Some of the players have that feature. Test out all the demos and choose the one that fits YOU the MOST. www.powerkaraoke.com www.roxbox.net www.pcdj.com www.mtu.com www.tricerasoft.com www.karaokeware.com are just a few programs that I know the links to. I don't remember offhand the link to KARMA but it seems to be a decent program. Ipersonally run JustKaraoke with Compuhost as a backup. For home use, most of the programs are overkill in my honest opinion. JustKAraoke fits into both catagories at a small price. You might want to upgrade your sound system to a PA format rather than trying to use home stereo components for your purpose. At reasonable low volumes you might get away with home stuff but if you decide to host an outside show you are going to want to turn it up to a point that you blow the speakers or fry the amp. |

Hi: I noticed that you said Klipsch speakers. These are great speakers, as they are my home suuround sound speakrs. They are not live performance speakers. You will fry these speakers if you drive them at all. Felix the KJ |

Well, this is just for home use. I'm never going to take this outside or on the road. Just for me and my friends to do in our living room. |

You should be able to get a cavs player that usb's to an external hard drive, and load your songs from the Scdgs to the hard drive.......not 100% sure, but someone on here will know... |

I have a theater room with like a $4000 system(yeah Klipsch)... for karaoke I prefer the sound of my low end PA. Do you have a sound board(mixer)? much more than just a mic input is needed for good sound. |

Um, why would you need several different song lists? Create a master database in something like Access or the equivalent & print a report of every song you have in one book - at least that is how 99% of the kj's do it. |
