Just noticed this on their site. You now have the option of internet based licensing/authorization, similar to what Latshaw is doing.

AND they are letting you have two installation per license...a primary & a backup. I am very surprised at this last point. Even though they SAY you should never use both concurrently, I don't see how they could prevent it.

I wonder if existing DONGLE users can register to go DONGLE-LESS. I sure would like the extra USB slot on my computer free, even if it involves castration of my dongle.

There is a way to migrate to the new method by downloading the hybrid version of the software.

Unless of course you're a man of your word, and intend to follow the rules you agree to abide by when agreeing to the users license during the install. This is why a whole karaoke production industry has been decimated, and soon may be totally extinct.

For those that proudly follow the rules, we as fellow professionals commend you. You're our only hope!

For anyone going "Dongle-less", I'd be glad to take your dongle off your hands. (Somehow that just doesn't sound right). But like I said, if you have no use for your dongle, I'll take it. lol

On a serious note, do you have to be connected to the internet to use the "new" version? If so, what happens if you loose your internet connection?

NO! You only need to be connected briefly for the actual activation, or for dongle users that want to migrate to the new model, the migration. After that, no internet connection is required.

I understand that for new users, a manual process is provided, where an Internet connection is not required at all, but from what I further understand (could be wrong), the migration process does require a brief internet connection.

I just migrated both my systems without a hitch, worked beautifully.

This is really good news.

Don't know why but I always worry about
loosing or breaking the dongle.

I hate it.

The club where I do my main show does not have wi-fi, and I have done more than a few outdoor shows... Some far away from likely wi-fi.

Exactly. Which is why I am VERY surprised to see Compuhost abandon a system that has proven to be piracy free.

When you convert to the GEN2 model, the dongle get's deactivated so it's pretty much worthless at that point.

This is a nice development. I never used the program because of the dongle. I don't have an available usb port and hubs slow down your usb speed. Too bad I have Karama now and have no desire to switch. If they were to drop the price under $100 I may pick up a copy just to check it out.

Agree with you about the usb port.
I had to buy a PCMCIA card just for the dongle.

You can try it out now for free.
It is fully functional.
Just a two min. limit on Karaoke tracks.
Everything else has no restrictions.
