I recently upgraded to a new laptop - Acer Aspire 5740

Windows 7
I3 PRocessor
4 GB RAM

I use winamp 3 with a CDG plugin to run my show. Seems to work fine most of the time, but every once in a while, Winamp freezes and shuts down.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Is it an issue with the 3rd party plugins? Pacemaker, inzip or CGD etc.?

Any idea how to resolve the issue?

Thanks all!

Don't you mean winamp 5? Winamp 3 would of course have issues with windows 7 as it is an ancient version of winamp.

Do yourself a favor, buy JustKaraoke from Tricerasoft for $25. You'll thank me. Well worth the money.

Hey Danny G
My mistake - yes it is Winamp 5.572
Still crashes though :D

Stogie
Appreciate the suggestion, however I use it for a solo gig in addition to Karaoke. Winamp seems to work very well for me - when it works that is...

Thanks

You can try changing the Compatibility Settings for "winamp.exe" Try running it in Windows XP mode --

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but JustKaraoke can be used for a solo gig very nicely. The only thing it doesn't have that I personally need and use often is tempo adjustment. JustKaraoke will save a singer's history and it will save the key change so if you want to have a list of 50, 60, 100 songs under your name it will do that and keep them until you tell it not to.

I've been singing professionally for around two years now doing a solo act and I use Karafun for my shows. I have searched and have not found anything that I like better. Karafun is very easy to use, very easy to set up playlists, very easy to modify playlists by dragging songs up and down in a playlist, a song can be added to a playlist by simply dragging it from a folder into the playlist and it can be removed even easier. Karafun will play from a Karaoke disc placed in the DVD drive of your laptop too, which can come in handy from time to time.

It's a super stable program and it doesn't take over your computer like winamp and Itunes. Karafun is ideal for a musician playing to backing tracks or a solo singer like myself. It's very simple to change the key or the tempo and both can be modified while the song is playing.

Winamp will never go on another computer of mine, no reason to use it anymore. If I need to play a few mp3 or mp4 songs, I use a program called Spider Player. It will crossfade automatically between songs and play nearly ANY file format. It's free, stable, simple and it works GREAT!

You might want to take a look at the three programs I described, it could save you a lot of time, trouble and money in the long run.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Karafun is an extremely stable program, I only wish it had a search function in the playlist. Does it have one that I have missed entirely?

I have found that the winamp crash was caused by an outdated version of PACEMAKER. I was watching TV this evening and decided to check.

It seems to be fixed now. I will see if there are any issues over the weekend.

Thanks all!
