to using discs if you were no longer able to use your computer or laptop to run your shows. Thought it might be interesting to see the results.

Probably no fair for me to have answered--we ARE disc. But I don't see that lasting with the disc and disc player quality getting iffier and iffier.

There would be nothing that can stop me from using a computer.

I could do it but my show would suffer.

I love what I am doing, and I think the ability to computerize has helped the quality of my show a great deal.

I would go back to disc but very very reluctantly. Carrying discs around again will take some getting used to URGH!

I would need to get rid of the noise meter for claps at competitions, no more video clips in the background, no more sound effects... :D

I would miss my puter... especially since it's brand new!

It would be a bit like stopping using email
and start posting letters.
I think the music industry has to give up some of it's power & greed
and move forward.
That is not aimed at the karaoke manu's.

The computer stays.

I dont see how I could keep ALL of my disks organized in a show setting, especially in the small and dark club where I do most my shows. I don't see a serious effort to fight the modern era anyway.

The singers would rebel anyway, I have a hard enough time keeping them happy with 10,000 songs. If I cut my selection to 500 CDs/5000 songs for transportation reasons the show would really suffer.

At 63, it would be a major PITA to start carring disks around again. The weight being the main factor. Also I'd have to custom rebuild a new roadcase for twin players instead of a single computer. Early on I said I would get out of the karaoke business when i was 50, then 60, and I'm still going. Looks like I'll keep running shows comouter or disk based until "I've fallin, and I can't get up".

I don't like it, but I'd reduce the size of my library and try to pare it down to the songs that get sang all the time and a few discs with recent releases.

I started doing medical transcription in 1984. We used correcting selectric typewriters, a roll of sticky paper, and cassette tapes. Now: One computer, retrieve voice files over the net, transcribe the report, send it back completed. No paper, no typewriter, no correction tape, no cassette tapes. I can't even IMAGINE going back to the way we did it when I started way back then. And going back to discs for karaoke seems like doing that. I won't/can't carry the discs, the players, the larger rack, etc.

Soooo, I guess 50% of the people who responded to the poll would shut down and get out of the business. That means 50% fewer customers for the disk companies, and 50% fewer disks sold.

Or conversely more opportunities for disc-based to get shows at higher pay. You know - the old supply and demand thingy.

I could run off of discs and the show would be just as good/fast as it is now with the computer. It would probably take me a few songs to really get back into the groove of discs.

I'm with Karen on this. Had to go back to discs for one DJ gig and let me tell you I was so rusty I went out and bought a new laptop. Hopefully I can keep the thieves away from this one.

I feel that going back to using discs would sure be a burden. You all know the disadvantages. It's time to move forward. We are living in the digital age.

CD's replaced vinyl albums, DVD replaced VHS, HDTV replaced square tube sets, and the list goes on and on. Remember your heavy, bulky, boxy computer monitor. I'm sure you're all using a flat screen monitor. Could you ever go back?

And just like everything else, laptops and MP3+G files have replaced CDG players and discs. I will not go back. There is no reason we should have to. Like all of the other advancements made over the years the music industry must be willing to move forward and embrace new technology...after all, we are living in the computer age.

I helped my Father-In-Law host a show year or so ago, and he still uses discs. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it was the most aggravating thing I have done in a long long time!!!!

I suppose if I was FORCED to go back using discs only I would, but if would not be fun

I go conform with some of the previous posts. I could do it, but it would be a major pain in the a$$. I would also have to get a new CD+G player, since I even use my computer to play customer discs. Besides the additional weight of my discs I feel their more at risk too taking them with me to each show. Right now they're in a secure storage unit with a good lock, security cams, gate, etc. I don't even feel comfortable to keep them at home (break ins, I read some horrifying stories about that, too).

I would in no way go back to discs. I worked for a disc based company for a couple of years, and the minute that I figured out how to computerize, I went for it, and my shows became WAY better for it. I have spent so much money not only on discs, but software, equipment to use that software, plus the time I take to catalogue, rip CDS, rename files, etc. If I was forced to go back to discs, I would spend my time and energy fighting the very thing that forced us to go back. I would ask the E.F.F. for help, because having to take a HUGE step backward is ridiculous in this day and age. For those who say they run a disc based show with ease, good for you. I refuse to go back.

In a heart beat......it would get rid of at least half of the competition, and make it more profitable
