Since there were a couple post about laptop problems, try some tweaking of XP if that is what you are running.....
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep06/a ... n_0906.htm

I am sure the are tweaks for Vista and 7 if that is what you are running, just Google it.

Thank you. A good post.
Something many of us could benefit from.
Really liked the pointless tweaks.

Now how about services that can be stopped... Anyone...

I have tried to disable every service and the re-enable only what is needed to play karaoke. Here is what I have found:

Enable ONLY these for XP pro:

1) Plug and play
2) Windows audio
3) Remote prcedure call (RPC) locator
4) Remote prcedure call (RPC)
5) DCOM server process launcher

With ony these running karaoke will play perfectly, BUT with virtually no change in performance or cpu usage. You will not have internet without enabling serveral other services, and will not be able to install new programs without enabling windows installer.

My suggestion is to only disable the annoyances ie: auto update, security, firewall, antivirus (a biggy), etc. OR just leave alone.

I use a utility called GameMode http://download.cnet.com/GameMode/3000- ... 07864.html

One click and it shuts down all uneccessary running applications, services and procedures. Note I said it shuts down any open apps too so you run this utility before starting your karaoke application(s)
Then click again to restore back to the way it was.

I actually just close the GameMode app too once it is done doing its thing and just restart my computer to restore all.

There is also another app like this one called GameBooster http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

Both are freeware.
