Does anyone use the dbx driverack PX? If so do you need to use the M2 mic wizard to benefit from this unit. The club I play at has house music playing throughout the day and will not bring it down until I start playing so it makes it very difficult to run through the "Pink sound" setup. Thanks.

I have a DriveRack PA. When I first started with the unit, I followed the instructions in the manual, including running the pink noise generator with the RTA mic for auto-equalization. Following this, and all of the other setup instructions in the book, I got NOMINALLY better sound from my system. HOWEVER, then I found the DBX driverack forum!!! http://www.dbxpro.com/forum/ Interestingly enough, most of the pro-level users on the DBX forum would state that users should NOT use the auto-EQ. Turns out that the auto-EQ parameters are, in fact, very conservative and NOMINAL compared to what the Driverack can really do. Follow the instructions in the START HERE section of the DBX forum, and you'll end up with a perfectly treaked system. The best way I can describe my system now after following the suggestions in the DBX forum is that it plays at very high PERCIEVED levels while actually outputting about 1/2 of the actual energy it used to to reach the same percieved levels. That mean that someone in the back of the room can HEAR and UNDERSTAND the nuances of the music, but even the guy in the front row can talk to the gal across the table in close to a normal voice. So I say screw the RTA and auto-EQ. You can perform all of the suggested tweaks available in the DriveRack with your system at home or even in PFL (pre-fader listen) at your gig, and it will make a HUGE difference. The learning curve is a bit steep, but if you can just follow all of the directions, you'll end up with the best sound your system is capable of. Hope that helps! |
