Hi everyone, I have purchased a Behringer multicom MDX4600 compressor, The manual is not very clear on set up for vocals only. Could someone steer me in the right direction for a starting point on the settings for karaoke? any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance....Cord |

It's going to vary by singer, because they will (of course) sing at different levels. If you observe the red lights, which show "gain reduction," you probably want to just tickle the second or third light on the loudest vocal parts of songs, for most singers. For screamers, let those red lights do their thing, because that means the singer is being reduced further in volume. How do you accomplish this? The "threshold" knob controls when gain reduction begins, and by turning it counter-clockwise, you will see more red lights for a given input signal. Also the "ratio" knob affects how much gain reduction happens once the threshold is exceeded. You will learn how to adjust it carefully as you use it more, but 4:1 is a good starting place. Also remember that if you have a solid red bar of lights and you keep pushing the channel fader or gain control up, you will be more likely to get feedback. So if the singer isn't loud enough, don't try to power them through those red lights with other controls -- turn the threshold knob clockwise. I hope this helps. Experiment with it, practice, you will "get it" pretty quickly. |

4:1 is awful high. I would recommend 2.5:1 as the initial setting. Then also: Threshold: -10db Attack/Release: auto |
