Lets hear it from The Club owners (I am sure there some of those here). If it's a slow night, what would you prefer us as KJ's do to keep the show going? A- Play More Fill Music B- Sing More In any given night a club could be faced with a slow night. In These situations, as noted in previous posts, we aren't beng paid to sing, however if thats what's necessary to keep the night going, then so be it. |

I'm sure it varies from place to place. However, the only non-karaoke music that gets played at my shows is the between song filler track that keeps looping around and around. I can sing enough songs to sing for 4 hours straight if I have to, but it's never come to that yet! Basically, it's sing a song, beg for singers, sing another song, beg some more, repeat as necessary. However, as my shows have grown in popularity, I rarely have to sing at all anymore. |

which brings up another interesting question. Do you play fill music between each singer, or not. I have been where the singers are up one after another, and no fill played between, and other venues where they play about 1-2 min of a song between each singer. I seem to be partial of the first, because I don't like not getting to hear all of a song, especially if it is a good one. |

From stictly a singer's standpoint: If I have a choice between going to a Karaoke show that maximizes the number of songs sung..(ie, no filler songs...or only snippets..) and a Karaoke/DJ show that plays songs in between singers....I ALWAYS CHOOSE THE FORMER OVER THE LATTER!! The very best Karaoke Shows that I have attended are the shows where SINGING is the FOCUS...the SOUND is GOOD...the ROTATION is fair....AND FAST...because singers are notified in advance that you are up next or "on deck" or whatever....NO LIGAGGING between songs.... NOTHING irritates me more than to wait for 1 1/2 hours to sing and some IDIOT has to stop and talk to his buddies on the way to the stage...or some gal has to hug every guy between her seat and the mike....GET YOUR BEHIND on the stage and SING....and let the next guy to the same.. I go to Karaoke to SING and TO HEAR "KARAOKE" singers..... I am not interested in going to some hole-in-the-wall bar to hear CREED sing...I want to hear "Jeriamiah" sing CREED... i can listen to CREED at home...along with Merle ...and Brittney.. and Nelly and Dr "Whoever".. whew!!! that's the most I've said on here in months.....sorry to be so long winded..... |

I think it really depends on your crowd and your venue whether you play "filler" music or dance sets etc. At my Saturday show I have a regular rotation of between 12-15 singers. It's small local place with many regulars. OF course the singers go there to SING and some people even go to LISTEN to singers. But I think it's the KJ's job to keep EVERYONE entertained so they stay and spend $$$ and even come back next week. I wish I had 40 singers all night long and the place was filled with Singers spending money ...but then again You might only sing 1 song Unfortunatley there are people playing pool and some want to dance and some want to hear CREED sing. I consider myself a GOOD KJ and play as little filler music as possible..quick and fair rotations ..But sometimes as a KJ ..I do feel I need to play some filler music and or a dance sets just to keep the OTHER customers happy... Singers ...be patient with you KJ I'm sure they are doing the best that they can.... NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG ..there are a lot of KJ who sing too much themselves and play toooo much filler music ...It comes down to what type of show do you like..... |

I guess maybe I should clarify myself. When I said filler music, what I mean is that I have a second player in my rack that I keep playing at all times. Usually I put in either some techno house music, or a blues track with no words. I just play that track over and over. After a singer finishes, I just turn up the slider on this second channel so there is no dead air between singers. I use music without words so I don't ever get people saying, "Oh, I like that song, let it play." My shows are all about karaoke, and I try never to play "regular" music at all. |

whether you have 40 seconds of the KJ blabbering, silence, or a partial song or comedy bit, it doesn't affect the speed of the show if you fade it in and out when the next singer is ready. now MIX music between singers I consider a full song. FILLER music is the partial stuff... it fills in the slot. I too prefer a pure karaoke show, where there is no singers waiting for a full song. I usually use the same kind of songs as filler, so if someone complains that they want to hear the whole thing, they can SING it! |

I agree with Matt, And BTW.. have you checked HIS attandance numbers lately?? I wouldn't argue with him on that one... |

Hey Brian (or should I just call ya Sybil, since you change your moniker so much! heheheh), how do you know what my attendance numbers are? For the record, they are increasing, and then I get some horrid dead nights where the bar doesn't want to keep it. It's very frustrating, but the suckers will NOT advertise... oh well!! |

Matt, I don't know.. I would guess you would guess that you DO get some really great nights though.. I get some great nights like clock work.. and now that school's out some lighter nights..although I'll find out in the middle of June again when I go back to my club show how bad it's been impacted. With another KJ The numbers change because the patrons don't feel comfortable or the dance music is spun instead of played off of video or whatever the complaint of the week is. We hear it all. |

Tom: If I ever get to Hollywood, MD, I'll be sure and stop by...but NOT to listen to CREED sing....! If you have a Karaoke Show where I can sing "as often as possible" and have a good sound system...I venture to guess you'll get sick of seeing me..... The whole idea behind my comments was that I go to shows where the singing is the FOCUS....I can't drink anymore, so I don't go to drink...I can't eat much of what I like anymore, so I don't go to eat...but so far no ONE da*n doctor has told me to "quit singing or you'll die!"....so I guess I'll just keep bouncing around the Karaoke shows....at least the ones that don't screw around between singers....and tipping big to make up for all the money the doctor's won't let me spend..... |

Hey Willie, If ya ever get up near Charlotte, stop by and see us, we do a show on Friday and Saturday Nights at a local Club Here, and run a No Bull, sing your heart out show. Usually about 25-35 people, and about 60% sing. So come on up and sing with us when you get a chance. Michael & Sharon |

In Tyme, I have Sang My A** off in alot of cities including Charlotte.. I do Know that one thing I definately learned about Charlotte, is.. it is the home city of Chartbuster. Although that Karaoke Media manufacturer's are not the "Iron Fists of the world" but it was definately quite a bringing a Priddis track to the KJ the one I dealt with made quite a episode of it. So I do know the deal. IF ya are gonna sing in Charlotte.. Ya gotta have a chartbuster in your hand.. Sounds like a Singer's Showcase parody.. |
